Hotel Breaks in the UK, Europe and Beyond

By Watson J Phillips

When you have a spare weekend with no work to worry about, do you stay at home? Thousands of people in this situation regularly take advantage of the cheap flights with the low cost airlines and jet away for a hotel break.

These days there are lots of destinations to choose from more and more airports around the UK and Ireland. Airports that were previously unpopular or uneconomical to use are having aircraft arrive from other similar airports all over Europe.

Your choice of places to fly to has increased to a level never seen before and you can easily jet off by booking a cheap flight and accommodation online and fly off on a cheap weekend

But going away overseas does have its disadvantages especially if you are short of time. Not all the flights are suitable for an overnight trip in a foreign city. Some flights leave in the early afternoon and by the time you get there and get into the city centre it could be into the early part of the evening. Usually if you leave in the afternoon the return flight is more than likely to be a mid morning one, leaving you just one evening away at your destination. Even if you do stay longer you still lose a large proportion of your trip travelling.

A lot of people overlook the possibility of having a short break in the UK possibly because of the weather or because it does not sound as impressive to your friends as saying you flew off for the weekend.

Flights within the UK and Ireland can offer a better solution for your hotel break. With an increased number of flights you could get to your destination on an early flight and return on a late flight in the evening. This would enable you to spend more time enjoying your destination than sitting in the airport.

There are lots of exciting cities to visit in the UK and Ireland such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, London, Dublin, Manchester and many more. Each destination have it's own unique attractions.

You could maximize your time at your destination and spend less time hanging about for flights at the airport and queuing up to get through a massive queue at the security check. You do not have to take the plane you could drive or even book a rail break package and travel by train. There are some interesting hotel breaks you could take including a murder mystery weekend or a spa break.

How to Keep your Teeth ? A Dentist?s Advice

By Steven H. Poulos, DDS

Brushing and flossing help control the plaque and bacteria that cause dental disease.

Plaque is composed of bacteria, saliva and food particles. It adheres to teeth and gums and if it is not removed, it turns into calculus (tartar). Bacteria in plaque also make acids from food particles and that acid causes tooth decay. Periodontal (gum) disease results from the plaque and calculus destroying gums and bone.

Because plaque is continually forming in the mouth, the only way to control it is with regular brushing and flossing of the teeth.

Use a soft bristle toothbrush and toothpaste at least twice daily. The most important time to brush is before bedtime.

1. Brush at a 45-degree angle to the gums, gently using a small circular motion, ensuring that you always feel the bristles on the gums.

2. Brush the outer inner and biting surfaces of each tooth.

3. Clean inside the front teeth with the tip of the bristles.

4. Remove bacteria from your tongue by brushing it. This also freshens breath.

Electric toothbrushes are also recommended. They are easy to use and can remove plaque efficiently. Simply place the bristles of the electric brush on your gums and teeth and allow the brush to do its job, several teeth at a time.

Brushing does not clean between teeth or under the gum line, so it is best to floss once a day. Plaque colonies are continually building up in these spaces, and can be destroyed by flossing, thus preventing gum and bone deterioration.

1. Cut off a length of floss and wrap it around your middle fingers. Leave 2 inches between the fingers.

2. With a sawing motion, gently press the floss down between the teeth.

3. To get the floss under the gum line wrap it into a C-shape around each tooth and move it up and down. Clean both sides of each tooth.

If you have any difficulty with this procedure, you can use a floss holder.

Rinsing is also important. If you can't brush after a meal, at least rinse your mouth with water. And, of course, rinse after brushing. Check with a dentist or dental hygienist to find out if a particular mouthwash is right for you.

These are simple things you can do to preserve dental health. Of course, visiting your dentist a couple times a year will add to the preventive measures you take yourself.

Medicine for a Young Old Age

By by Anju Mathur, MD

Since everyone is going to eventually get older, why not succumb to it without a fuss? In truth, there is something you can do about it. You may still grow old in years, but many of the ravages of old age are avoidable.

We invite you to consider that time affects us all and that the choice between graceful and productive older years or a period of slow decay and deterioration is within our reach. It is truly up to us to make that decision.

Preventing deterioriation is certainly wiser and cheaper than trying to cure age related disease after it has already taken hold. You?ve heard the maxim that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. In this case it is certainly true.

A realistic goal is not to prolong life to some unrealistic advanced age, but to promote successful aging ? staying healthy and functional up to the end of a long, productive life. Utilization of safe, effective therapies that address the underlying mechanisms of aging, e.g. natural hormone replacement, and specific dietary and exercise recommendations are a good foundation to an anti-aging program.

Degenerative diseases can be stopped or reversed with correct eating habits, the addition of hormones and nutritional supplements and exercise

The usual symptoms of old age such as tiredness, frailness, weight gain and loss of memory, etc., can be reduced and controlled and even reversed by these methods. But additionally, diseases that are sometimes brought on by old age such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer can also be controlled or reduced.

The most important part of a program of rejuvenation would be replacement of the natural hormones that decline with age. The program would include detoxification of the body, testing and determination of what supplements the body needs and a doable diet for that particular type of body. Environment also plays a role and one would be urged to avoid environmental and personal toxins and lead an ecological life style.

Prevention is now both programmable and attainable. You can join the anti-aging program and chart a new course for health, rejuvenation and effective anti-aging.

Make Homeschooling fun with Homeschooling Software

By Josh Brodderick

When you set out on the path of educating your child at home, you are faced with many decisions and challenges that you may not have expected when you first undertook to homeschool your child. One such decision is the type of tools you will use in order to help your child learn. Homeschool Software is an amazing addition to the collection of traditional teaching aids that parents have available to help with the education of their child.

Most children would agree that introducing computer games into their school day would definitely make their homeschooling fun! But before you go ahead and buy any computer programs, you need to answer this question: will my child actually benefit? In other words, every child learns differently. Some children may not be suited to online learning. Once you've determined that computer learning will be beneficial, now comes the hard part - how do you choose the subject(s) your child will use computer software to learn? And once you've decided THAT, how do you choose from the bazillions of programs available? It seems that the decisions never end, but trust me, that this is the hardest part. Once you've gotten past this point, you'll quickly experience the benefits that homeschool software possesses.

As I've mentioned already, some children will learn differently that others. And just as your child has their own unique interests, so will their idea of a captivating computer game or program. Some children like characters, some children like puzzles. There is no shortage of subjects and topics available these days, so you should pay close attention to your choice in order for your child to get the maximum benefit from your investment in their eduction. This is where the 'fun' in homeschooling software comes in - choose something fun for your child, and they can't help but learn!

Finding a good combination of fun for your child and effective educational value is always a tricky prospect. A number of elements come into play: how your child learns, the curriculum you choose, and how much you want to invest in teaching tools. Your child's preferences with subjects and type of computer games they prefer will help you choose what software programs will be most effective in your homeschool program. Combine your child's preference with your already chosen curriculum to narrow down the subject of software you will look for. Remember, many facets of learning can be addressed - information learning, problem solving, memorization, and creativity. The final factor that will come into play is budget. You might want to try out one or two titles before committing to a whole learning series. Or look for free software, as well as take advantage of non-traditional 'learning software' - ie, free graphics programs, or online word games.

A consideration to keep in mind when homeschooling your child is the social environment that other children are exposed to with regular schools. One element that is often present which helps motivate childrens learning is their competitive spirit among their peers. A great way to make up for the missing element of group competition is to use software programs which provide a challenge to overcome, and a number of different levels to attack once they have accomplished a particular skill set. Competing against a high score or reaching the next level can provide a good motivating element, and is also a fun goal for your child to reach that accomplishment.

Another interesting attribute of learning software is that they are often designed with enough flexibility so that they will suit a wide range of experience levels and learning speeds. The child is able to start out at the level they are currently studying at, and advance virtually at the maximum speed at which they are capable of learning. The combination of interactivity, challenge, and appropriate skill level makes homeschool software a very accessible learning tool which adds fun to your child?s education. The secondary benefit to this adaptability is the ability for you to use the same program for multiple children, regardless of their individual levels and learning styles.

A Little On Wedding Traditions

By Fisiwa Masu

Wedding traditions are worldwide; some traditions have been in place for centuries and other traditions however are quaintly new, you can even start your own family wedding traditions. One lovely wedding tradition is the wearing a tiara and is taken from ancient times where there was a white ribbon worn around the shoulders and head of a king, which signified his power and wealth. Obviously this tradition has changed and the woman has taken over the wearing of a tiara which is normally half moon shaped encrusted with expensive gems.

If the wedding is truly traditional then the bridesmaids will also wear tiaras on their heads albeit smaller and less well adorned examples than that worn by the bride. The tiara is the finishing touch to the wedding dress and many women will keep this beautiful item for the rest of their lives, such is the importance of it. Often the bride's attendants like bridesmaids, flower girls and maid of honor are presented with rings shaped like miniature tiaras which can make really beautiful wedding favors for those directly involved in the wedding.

It wasn't that long ago that the people belonging to the wedding party would take the newly weds to the honeymoon location. It was then the party's task to try and take the garter from the bride's leg as the prize would be for this person to then wear it like a band around their hat or alternatively to a woman for whose attentions they were after. The enthusiasm that this wedding tradition produced was often too much and the attempt to remove the garter ended in the bride being undressed so to stop this unseemly behavior, brides tried throwing the garter to the men in the party as soon as she was married.

Tradition said that the man to catch the thrown garter would be the next to be wed but unfortunately many men that had consumed too much alcohol would attempt to take the garter by force. Once again it was necessary for a wedding custom to be changed so brides started too throw the bouquet of flowers to the ladies at the wedding instead which had the same meaning as the thrown garter. Most brides have taken to wearing the garter again even though they are rarely ever used to keep stockings up anymore; nevertheless they have become very popular.

The garter should really be blue as a sign of good luck although this tradition has not really stuck as women often favor red garters nowadays. The tradition of the garter has not been lost though and is still used albeit the tradition has evolved so that the groom now removes it from his wife's leg and throws it to the male wedding party. Tradition says that the man who unmarried man that catches the garter will be the first of the wedding party men to marry within twelve months.
