Simple Automotive Maintenance Advice That Can Save Time And Money

Renault 14Image via Wikipedia

By Ross Everett

Since I was a small child, I have had the importance of automotive maintenance drilled into my head. Now that I've reached adulthood, I appreciate the sound foundation I had in this discipline of critical importance. I cant imagine the time and money Ive saved and headaches Ive avoided. If you didnt have this background, and dont have a clue about how to maintain your car, dont despair. There are a number of simple car maintenance tasks that anyone can do even if you know nothing about how a car works.

--A clean car is a happy car: The outside of your car isnt as important as whats under the hood, but it is still important. In addition to the aesthetic benefits of a clean car theres a number of practical matters it addresses. Keeping your windshield clean inside and out is crucial for safety. Keeping the rest of the car clean prevents rust and corrosion.. And when youre cleaning your car, dont forget.

--Clean the undercarriage of the car: This is especially true if you live anywhere it snows"all of the salt and other gunk your car gets underneath it will rust out your body faster than anything. I dont care how cold it is, you should give your car a good bath at least once a week during the winter, and make sure to get underneath the wheel wells and the undercarriage of your car.

--Clean your engine: Wash your engine, complete with soap and water, every time you wash your car. Not only will a clean engine run cooler, but washing it also cleans off crusty oil deposits, battery acid, and grime collected from the road. Let your engine run at idle to dry off before you start driving again. This is less of a problem with modern fuel injected cars, but still a good idea.

--Change and/or clean your air filter: Change your filter every time you change your oil filter. While it won't kill you to change your filter less frequently, they're so cheap and easy to replace there's really no reason to put it off. In between changes, give the filter a good spray with a compressed air hose and blow out the filter chamber as well.

--Check and change your oil: Back in more civilized times, a full service gas station would check your oil every time you filled up. You should do the same. Change your oil frequently"at least every 5,000 miles and better still, every 3,000 miles. Change your filter when you change the oil or youre going to be pumping clean oil through a dirty filter which doesnt do you a bit of good. Oil changes are a pretty easy job even for those without much of a mechanical background, and drive thru oil change businesses are ubiquitous in any decent sized market. Most of these places do a decent job and charge a reasonable fee. Many also take care of several other of the maintenance tasks on this list.

--Other fluids: Change your anti-freeze every year, and eyeball the coolant reservoir anytime youre under the hood to make sure that its full. Check the transmission, brake and power-steering fluids frequently, and top off when necessary.

--Take good care of your tires: Check your air pressure levels with a tire gauge at least once a week, keeping them filled to manufacturer specified levels. Check the spare tire--if you have a 'real' tire as a spare make sure it's properly inflated, and even if you have a 'donut' temporary spare make sure it isn't damaged. Rotate your tires every few months or more frequently if you drive a lot of miles. This will insure even wear, and along with proper inflation will prevent countless problems as well as saving you time and money.

Emergency tools and equipment: Despite your best efforts to the contrary, things will eventually go wrong. When in does, youll be glad that you planned ahead. These items should be in your trunk at all times: tire gauge, pliers (slip-joint and needle nose), adjustable wrench, flat head and Phillips screwdriver. Dont buy cheap tools"theyll break and the least opportune times. Invest in Craftsman tools or another premium brand, and youll be set for life. Youll also need a flashlight, and if you live somewhere it snows its also a good idea to have salt, sand, a small shovel, and a blanket just in case you get snowbound and have to sleep in your car. A cellphone charger is also a good thing to have, since a cellphone doesn't do much good if your batteries are dead. There are also 'emergency' cellphone chargers that don't require a power source.

--Get an auto club membership: An auto club at a minimum should give you free towing, trip continuation insurance, lockout service, free maps, and some other bells and whistles. AAA is the best known, but there are countless others provided by credit card companies, cellphone providers, banks, etc. Shop around and find the best deal for the services you need. A growing number of car manufacturers also include lifetime roadside assistance, and not just luxury brands--Mini Cooper and Volkswagen offer new car buyers 24 hour roadside assistance free of charge. Also, ask about the size of their provider network. In a decent sized city you'll be fine but if you live or frequently travel in less populated areas you might want to stick to AAA or another major company. There's nothing more infuriating that learning that your auto club doesn't have providers in Mesquite, Nevada or Vernal, Utah.

None of these tips require any significant mechanical competence or even more than a basic knowledge of how the car works. Still, they can help save time and money, extend the life of your vehicle and provide a safer driving experience.

By J. M. Maurette

To go sightseeing in Havana means also visiting the Plaza de la Catedral, a virtuous place with cobbled streets, full of beauty and senses, a place where thousands of people from all over the world get together each month, as tourist guides recall it.

In earlier times it was named Plaza de la Cinaga (Swamp Square), and later on "Plaza de la Catedral", it is a place that has much to do with the beginning of Havana, founded on the 16th Century in the proximities of Havana's harbour.

This square was named after a large Cathedral that was built in the 18th Century in the lands previously occupied by a Jesuit Order. Many restorations took place until this oratory became what today is one of the most impressive baroque buildings in Havana.

Family Tents Help You Grow Fabulous Family Moments!

CampsiteImage via Wikipedia

By Roger Jeffries

When is the last time you went camping, were station wagons all the rage? If it's been a while and you now have a family of your own its time to consider the last vacation choice, as the first. Sure you could stay in a comfy hotel but who wants to take pictures of a parking lot?

When it comes to family to bonding experiences, nothing compares to the experience of a family camping trip. You get to spend time with your family while making memories. Camping is a worthwhile family tradition to share with your own children. Perhaps you went camping with your parents or enjoyed camping as a boy scout. You can enjoy your own family camping, overnight or weekend camping trips.

You may have a tent stashed away in your garage or closet. If you have outdated camping gear, you can replace it or use it until you do replace it. If you do not have camping gear, you may have a neighbor who is willing to part with one. You may even find one online if you look or ask. You will find tents for sale when you search for them.

Family tents are wonderful even if you have only one child camping with you. Their design accommodates adults with their high ceiling. They often have enough room to sleep 6 people. Since they are user friendly, you can set the tent up and then store all your stuff, so you can enjoy the company of each other in the great outdoors.

A camping tent is also manufactured to keep you warm and dry in case of rain and sturdy enough to weather all the elements. Many of the tents made today are built to last for years, you should be able to hand them down to your kids so they can go camping too. The whole idea behind family camping is to carry on the tradition.

If you find yourself shopping for family tents you should always find a store that has them on display so you can walk around in them and see how much room they really have. Remember that you will need room enough for sleeping bags or cots and for your backpacks or suitcases. You can even lie down in one to see how long they are.

You will enjoy camping out in various campgrounds or in the deep woods. Remember to get a tent that includes a fly. You may experience rain and you do not want to sleep in a wet tent nor have all your belongings becoming drenched. Set the fly up, even if it does not look like rain since evening dew is nearly as heavy as rain.

Family tents also have lots of amenities such as side pockets to keep your stuff off the floor and hooks to hang flashlights. It's also a pretty good idea to set one up in the backyard and make a trial run to get everybody prepared. The kids will love the idea of trying something new and mom and dad will get a feel for what it's like to spend a night out under the stars with new campers.

How To Choose A Cat For Your Family

Cute catImage by Per Ola Wiberg (Powi) Away....again ! via Flickr

By Peter Henderson

There are many benefits when you learn how to choose the right cat, but you may find it to be a difficult choice. So they can experience the pleasure of growth, many families choose to adopt a kitten, whilst others will want to choose an adult cat because they do not have the tolerance, patience or energy to deal with a young and lively cat. They will need to train the kitten in litter training, furniture climbing and the curious nature of all kittens. Also, because adult cats are less likely to be adopted than their cuter counter-parts, some people like to choose a cat instead. But, there are different pros and cons for owning each of these.

The advantages of a kitten, is that you get to have the pleasure of watching them grow and mature. Kittens have quite an amusing curiosity. The bonds formed when a kitten is young, can be quite strong. The kitten's medical history is known somewhat by you, since the kitten has been in your presence for the most part. You get to have the pleasure to enjoy more years with them. You know their age. Kittens tend to adjust better with other pets that you may already have.

The advantages of a cat, is that they are already litter trained, a huge plus. Adult cats are calmer and they are less likely to destroy your favorite sofa and curtains. Cats may already be spayed or neutered. They can be left alone without too much stress and since they probably already know the outside dangers of the home, they are less likely to get into trouble. The biggest advantage to adopting a cat is that you're probably saving a life.

If you are confused about whether you want a long- or short-haired cat, you should keep in mind that grooming that a long-haired cat will take considerably longer. Even thought they maybe beautiful, you will need to keep up with the costs as the grooming is quite expensive. If you are looking at a semi-longhaired cat, then they will also need grooming around a few times a week. So, if you are looking for low costs and hassle free, then you should choose a short-haired cat.

When it comes to the sex of the cat you should always remember to choose a cat of the opposite sex if you already have a cat in your home, as this will limit the amount of competition between them. You will need to also remember that if you have cats of the opposite sex that they have been spayed or neutered. This, of course, will depend on whether want one cat or kitten or more, as there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

There are different advantages in choosing more than one kitten, as they will have each other for company, and they may not require a significant amount of attention from you. Also, you will find that the interaction between young kittens can be quite amusing. Also, if you do decide to get another cat later on it will be easier to introduce them.

However, there are a number of disadvantages to owning multiple cats or kittens - the amount of trouble they can get up to can be high and the cost of owning multiple cats is a lot more as care and grooming of them is multiplied. If the unfortunate happens and one of the cats passes away, then the others will probably be greatly affected. You should think thoroughly over which cat or kitten will be right for you. After you obtain your feline companion, you will see many joyous years together.

The Picnic Backpack For Active Lifestyles - Selection Tips

Ein Outdoor Rucksack {{de|Outdoor-Rucksack}} {...Image via Wikipedia

By Patricia C Thomas

Outdoor adventures with someone you love or the entire family are made more enjoyable with a picnic backpack. While a basket may be okay for short trips to the park down the street, longer trips will require something that is compact and can be carried without occupying both of your hands.

Depending on who will be doing most of the hauling and the amount of stuff that you want to carry on your trips, you will need to select the appropriate size of pack.

The sizes vary depending on the number of people who will be going on the trip, though you want to look at the overall size more than this number. There are more compact 2 person backpacks and then 4 person packs which can get quite large and bulky. Some larger sized products may even come with roller wheels.

If you will be traveling with children or taking them for outdoor experiences, you will likely want to purchase each child their own pack. There are some made specifically for children that are lighter in weight so they are easier to carry. This is absolutely essential for family outings because it will allow the parents to carry more compact, lighter packs as well. It will help your children to be more independent on the trip while lightening the load on your own back.

Another thing to consider is the arrangement of compartments inside the pack. Different models and brands will have different space arrangements, such as slots for placing bottled drinks or silverware and open spaces for stacking in food. Make sure that these compartments match up with what you will typically be carrying along.

There are some packs that are quite compact while still allowing you to carry along a lot of stuff. This a matter of design so make sure to look around and select one that will remain compact enough to be carried comfortably while still offering enough room to haul the amount of stuff you need to take along.

In the end, you want a picnic backpack that will hold up for some time even with consistent use. This means you should shop with functionality in mind more than just price. If you choose wisely, this could be a convenience investment that lasts for many years.

Places to Find Birds For Birdwatching

People in Orchid, Florida use binoculars for b...Image via Wikipedia

By Todd Hammerstein

Catch bird watching fever, and you will become a birdwatcher for life. Your hobby will quickly become a lifestyle as you find yourself always searching for new bird viewing sites. Here is a little help for new birdwatchers on where to find good watching spots.

Whether you are in your neighborhood or traveling somewhere far from home you can find premium bird watching spots by following a few general rules. One thing to remember is that birds are fairly predictable. They show up in certain places at certain times just like clockwork. This gives you a little insight as to when and where you should choose to try and view birds.

As urban sprawl eats up wooded areas it is often difficult to find a place to bird watch, especially in the city. You may, however, find that there are city and neighborhood parks with enough woods to attract birds. These could be good spotting sites, as could the fringes of any wooded areas that still remain near your home.

If you live near the beach, you are probably already aware of a variety of beach and ocean birds that live near you. The best time to spot these birds is early in the morning, although herons and egrets may be spotted in bogs and marshes in the cool of the afternoon. Depending on where you live, including the climate and coastal habitat you may see sandpipers, plovers, and a variety of other shorebirds.

Marshes and flooded areas may make you think more of mosquitoes than birds. The truth is, mosquitoes make good food for birds, and these are usually good bird spotting areas. Where there are bugs you will find birds. Look for species such as bitterns, blackbirds, wrens, sparrows, flycatchers and warblers.

An extra tidbit to know is that non-migrating birds often live near man-made structures like dams. The flowing water seems to attract birds. The best way to begin spotting birds is to get outside and look. If you can't find any in the areas given here, find your own spot. You'll soon get a sense of where the birds are in your area.

The Great American Fighter Dog, The American Staffordshire Terrier

A Staffordshire Bull Terrier, another breed of...Image via Wikipedia

by Troy Howard

If the UK have the Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Staffie), the US have its American counterpart, the American Staffordshire Terrier. The US version, also called Amstaff, is of terrier and molosser bloodline and its ancestry links back to the bull-baiting history of the 1800s England. It is a second cousin to the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT), a breed that has a notorious bull-baiting reputation.

When bull-baiting was banned in the UK, breeders transported the fighter breeds to the US. English and Irish immigrants continued the breeding in the US in order to continue the fighting games but this time through dog to dog pit fights. When this past time died down, the breeding still continued only this time for companionship purposes.

Together with the immigrants, the Amstaff worked in newly established communities, farms and ranches. They became farm helps, pigs and bear hunters, guard dogs and companion dogs. Presently though, the Amstaff is more of a companion dog and competitor of various dog sport competitions.

The Amstaffs are hardworking, agile, docile and quick learners. They can learn tricks quite easily and are sensitive to the master's orders therefore they excel at competitions. Most times, you will see Amstaffs joining obedience and agility competitions and tracking and conformation games.

At home, Amstaffs make incredible companion dogs as they are obedient and sensitive to the orders of their masters. They can pick up all forms of behaviors and tends to emulate them. This is good and bad in a sense that if the master show good actions, the Amstaff will tend to be good but if a negative behavior is displayed, the Amstaff will tend to act unfavorably, too.

Their posture shows off an air of great strength, agility and poise that sometimes they tend to look intimidating. Indeed, this breed is what it manifests outwardly because inwardly they are indeed fearless, intelligent, and tenacious, however, they also possess a great amount of devotedness, friendliness and loyalty to their masters. This breed is sensitive and reacts automatically to any kinds of sounds and because of this, they tend to become excellent watch and guard dogs.

The Amstaff's body is short and stocky and it possesses a powerful, strong head. The coat is short, tightly wraps its body, glossy and rough to the touch. Its colors may appear in any solid, patched or parti shade except all white, black, tan and liver which are not well- encouraged.

Some people are still confused as whether the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) and American Staffordshire Terrier are the same. In truth, they are two differing breeds and they have different body build and they're bloodlines have been separated by various breeding. However, the AKC allows double registration of the breeds therefore the Amstaff can be APBT and Amstaff at the same time, and vice versa.

How to Stop Your Dog from Digging

Assorted flowers in Park Seed Company GardenImage via Wikipedia

by Craig Clemins

Some dogs get a heap of satisfaction and enjoyment through digging up your yard. It's not that they intentionally want to destroy your impeccable flower bed, jus that they love digging.

You can either accept this behavior as a normal dog activity or you can make a conscious decision to do something about it.

One way that you can guarantee to keep your dog from digging up your garden is to install a small electric fence at its perimeter. Electric fence's are cheap to buy and extremely easy to set up. They don't do any real harm to your dog either, they only give a very minor flick to encourage your pet not to enter the garden. Don't worry if you have children as these fences can be adjusted to a very minor level that won't hurt your child should they touch it.

Some people will use the foul moth balls to keep their dogs out of the garden. Usually dogs sniff out everything the touch, those smelly moth balls with their foul taste will definitely make the dog want to hang out in your garden. They will have much better things to do with their time than mess with those moth balls. Keep in mind however, that while this is a great way to keep your dog out of the yard, moth balls don't stay forever and will have to be replaced, especially if it should be raining outside. Another downside is that when you are doing work around the yard, you may also pick up this smell as well.

Another way to keep your dog from destroying your garden, is to use a new method, this is a sour apple spray that can be sprayed all over you yard on a daily basis. It can actually be used on any of the things you would prefer the dog not to touch. The reason this is such an effective method is because your dog will hate that taste of sour apple in their mouth and will not want to chew on anything that they find this taste on. Also after a while of tasting it on that object they will associate the object with the taste and stay away for it instinctively.

Dog's dig because they are conditioned to do so. Its in their blood. If you work consistently to stop your dog digging using the tricks mentioned above, you should be able to almost totally eradicate the problem.

Be sure to put your foot down and become inventive with things that can be repeated on a regular basis to ensure that the dog learns what you want to teach him. Be patient and loving but be firm with your pet and life with your dog will be the better for it.

Why I Like Dogs Better

A small pet dog is presented during the third ...Image by AFP/Getty Images via Daylife

by Jimmy Kazoo

A dog is truly a mans best friend. They are very helpful to humans. They can be great companions and very good guardians. That's why it's no surprise that they make better pets than cats.

To start with, many people equate dogs to safety. This is mostly due to their sensitive noses and ears. Having a pet dog is like having a 24-hour security guard in your house. They're always protecting you and your house even as you sleep. If they sense danger, they begin to bark and alert you to what's going on. Most people who has a pet dog at home feels safer. Does this even occur when you have a cat as a pet?.

Dogs tend to be more loyal and caring pets than cats. A dog understands you and your emotions very well. When you're having problems, you can share them with your dog. They are wonderful listeners. They are usually hanging on to each and every word. Hell also try to comfort you and make you feel better. On the other hand, a cat won't respond to your feelings as well.

Dogs are very warm animals. They never harbor ill feelings. The moment you come back from work your dog will be happy to see you. He will initiate play by jumping on you and licking your legs and face. A cat, unlike dogs, tends to harbor grudges. They won't pay attention to you for weeks.

Dogs love their owners completely. They cannot see anyone harming them. They start wagging their tails when someone approaches their owners. Being such loyal animals, they would do anything to protect their owners. However, if you have a cat as a pet it won't be as protective of you. Cats would usually try to hide away.

While cats have their benefits, dogs are simply more fun. They are man's best friend for a reason after all. You can do a lot more with a dog than you can with a cat. Cats can't really go outside, they won't guard your house, they won't play- they are the lazy mans pet. If you are lazy, get a cat. If not get a dog!

Some of the more recent models include an LED light, MP3 player, digital clock, laser pointer, digital altimeter and USB flash drive. There are Swiss Army Knives for the army, which contains a brass spacer so it can assemble a SIG 550 and SIG 510 assault rifle. To commemorate 100 years of the knife, Wenger produced "the Giant" which has 85 tools that an do 100 different things.

The origins of the utility knife date to 1891 when a company that made surgical equipment discovered that the Swiss army knifes being used in the military were actually form Germany. Karl Elsener the owner made the first model of the Swiss Army Knife called the soldier's knife. He eventually enveloped a spring mechanism so that the blades on both sides of the knife could be retracted. The spring mechanism made it possible to include many other tools. The force needed to press these blades back into place are about 8 to 12 kg.

Today the Swiss army knife is manufactured by the original company, Victorinox and Wenger. The main buyers of this knife is the Swiss Army and the United State. Wenger uses the slogan Genuine Swiss Army Knife and Victorinox uses the Original Swiss Army Knife.

To ensure you have a real Swiss army knife then it should have the Wenger cross, a white cross in a red box. The trademark means that you have an authentic Swiss army knife as many companies produce similar products.

The classic model is still popular though there are models available for those that love to fish, the handy man in your life, the constant tinker or person that takes everything apart and then puts it back together. There is a model available for mechanics as well as just general use.

Interestingly the Swiss Army Knife was originally called the Soldier's Knife. The US soldiers returning from WWII coined the term Swiss Army Knife, as they liked this multipurpose knife that they got off of the Germans. The cutting blades on the knife rate a 56 on the Rockwell hardness scale making it a functioning knife and not just a toy.

A Look at Cat Breeding

JAKARTA, INDONESIA - MARCH 12: A cat and a dog...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

by Elias Maseko

For over a thousand years, cats and their people have lived together in some association. Currently, they are the second most kept pet, trailing only behind dogs in popularity. Caring for cats is still easy to do, even if you are away from your home or apartment for long periods of time during the day.

The basic food and attention needs of cats are not as large as the typical dog, who needs long walks frequently. These creatures can be a great pet for anyone because they are very adaptable and can live almost anywhere and would even live happily, healthy and comfortably in a small apartment. Many people consider them to be a great pet because their need to play and show adoration of their owners is balanced by a very faithful streak to their family, regardless of the owners' ages.

Since the majority of the cats kept as pets are a mixture of more than one breed, they are not a pedigree. Only 3 percent of domestic cats are purebred, there are no distinct advantages or disadvantages of buying a purebred and they can be very expensive. More than 100 breeds of purebred cats exists, thanks to the classification efforts of global groups.

Notable differences exist between the separate breeds, of course, as you can tell by looking at the unique breed shapes, sizes, coat color, coat length, eye color, and individual personalities. There are two main categories of cats: short hair and long hair. The short hairs outnumber the long haired varieties.

Long hair cats are harder to care for because they need daily grooming, they are at a higher risk of having hairballs. You'll have a more difficult time taking care of cats which have the longer hair, particularly when it comes to fleas or grazed skin.

Simple Guide for Wine Tasting

Tempranillo varietal wine bottle and glass, sh...Image via Wikipedia

by Bobbie McKee

So, you have been invited to your very first wine tasting party. You know that this is fun and it is a great way to show off your palate. But, what if you don't know anything about wine tasting? What if you don't know the proper way to taste wine? Surely you wouldn't want to be embarrassed in front of your friends as well as the host of the party tasting the wine the wrong way, would you?

So, here are some simple guides on how to taste wine.

You need to remember that wine tasting is a great experience. Most people do it in their own way but most people don't really know how to taste wine. Tasting wine is not just about having something other than water in your mouth, but tasting wine is about knowing the wine.

You have to remember that wine has a unique taste. It has a very complex and very rich taste that you need to fully taste. Wine tasting is not just about putting the wine in your mouth and swirling it around inside your mouth, but it takes some time in order for you to identify the wine and get its true flavor. That's the essence of wine tasting, which is getting the true flavor of the wine you taste.

Each wine isn't the same when it comes to flavor. The age of the wine will have an effect on the taste, which is why the older it is, the more expensive the wine is.

You also need to remember that the taste and quality of the wine will also depend on the quality of the raw products, which are grapes. The soil in each region is different with different amounts of minerals, and the amount of rainfall is also different on each region. This will also contribute to the taste of the wine.

Unlike other foods, the simplest difference in the taste of a grape will have a lot of difference in the taste of the final product which is wine.

Also, because each process of making wine is different in each region of the world, it will also contribute on the taste of the wine.

The point of all this is that you should take some time in tasting and smelling the wine. Don't just swirl it in your mouth and spit it out but you need to truly capture the flavor by seeing it first, then smelling it, and lastly, tasting it.

Try tasting as much wine as you can and washing your mouth off with room temperature water or unsalted biscuits to get the previous wine flavor off your mouth.

By tasting as much wine as you can, then you will be able to improve your palate and be able to know which type of wine suits your taste buds. Also, you will be able to gain experience in wine tasting so that the next time you get invited to another wine tasting party or you go on a wine tasting holiday in some of the most prominent vineyards in the world, you will be able to know and impress people on how knowledgeable you are with wines.

These are some of the things that you have to know about wine tasting. As you can see, it's not just about having something other than water in your mouth, but it's about truly capturing and identifying the complex flavor of wine.

Have a Great Vacation

A collage of The Seven Wonders of the (ancient...Image via Wikipedia

by Kermil J. Fogarth

Having worked hard for a year, you now need a stress relieving vacation to get away from it all and create some new memories to share with family and friends.

Taking your family along, if you have one, implies the fact that you must consult them when choosing a location. Surprises are always welcomed, but if you have children and you decide to spend your vacation in a city that has nothing fun to offer them, then the surprise turns into a nightmare. Going away from friends, even if for a week, seems to children something that requires an effort, so try and make them want that vacation by offering them exciting new things to do, things that can combine education and pleasure.

Having chosen a location the next thing to consider is the weather. It probably is different there than at home. For example, the mountains tend to be a little cool even in the summer so you should bring along clothing that is appropriate for that kind of weather. On the other hand, if you are going to a tropical or hot location, don't forget to bring an umbrella. In the tropics though it is summer most of the year, it usually rains every day and you don't want heavy rains to ruin your vacation.

Visiting various places around the world can be exciting. If you don't have budget constraints, a trip around the world to see the "seven wonders" is always worth it. A good place to visit is the Pyramids which are filled with mystery from ancient Egyptians, produced by a technology and architecture barely matched today. Walking through these wonders of the world brings out the mystery and contrast between them and the people and splendor of the area.

Vacation can be spent at home also. We can just relax and catch up on lost sleep if we feel too exhausted to travel. Meeting friends, barbecues, sitting by the pool and playing with children will make us forget the hard year that passed.

A vacation can simply be time spent at home winding down or an exciting trip to exotic places. Planning the vacation can be as intense as actually taking the vacation even if you stay at home. The vacation should not be stressful when the purpose is to relieve stress.

Your Dog Will Love You After You Buy This

Delilah Goes CampingImage by Ellyn B. via Flickr

by Bob Moore

Going camping soon? Taking the dog with you? Well, even if you're not an outdoorsman, the Coleman Hibernation Sleeping Bag for Dogs is for your pet. That's right. I said "sleeping bag." It looks just like yours, except smaller. Our dog loves it because she can nestle right in. It's quite a nifty little invention.

I wasn't sure what to expect when my wife told me she purchased one, but it's even better than I expected it to be. There are so many excellent features, such as the heavy duty zippers and the pillowy-soft interior. One of the best features I've found is what's called a "zipper plow" which prevents the zipper from snagging the material.

This bag comes complete with something called ComfortSmart technology that assures the insulation stays in place and the zipper works the way it's supposed to work. If you take your pooch on a lot of trips, it even comes with a compression strap. The only feature your dog probably cares about, though, is the ThermoLock insulation that keeps him/her warm and cozy.

It features design elements that ensure convenient operation while preventing heat loss, Zipper Glide for easier zipping, and a water-resistant bottom, sturdy cotton, and cozy fleece.

Your dog will also like the Hibernation bag for the added comfort it brings. Whether it's the Comfort Coil system that helps the bag mold to your dog's body, or the Comfort Cuff that gives him a soft place to rest his face, this will soon become your dog's favorite place to sleep. While he'll like it for the comfort, you'll like it for its portability. The Hibernation bag comes complete with a compression strap that allows you to take it anywhere. As a final feature, you'll like the fact that it opens completely so you can protect your car seats and your furniture.

Whether you're a camper or not, or whether you live in a consistently cold climate or not, the Hibernation bag is ideal for your dog. Just make sure you select the style suited for your dog's weight. He or she will thank you for it.

Three Fresh Ideas For Homemade Hamster Toys

hamster eyesImage by onlinewoman via Flickr

by Bert Gaton

Hamster toys provide a ton of different benefits for your pet. You can buy a variety of different toys that allow hamsters the opportunity to play and exercise at the same time. The most common types of toys for hamsters are of the running variety. There are also lots of toys available that encourage hamsters to climb and dig.

What if buying hamster toys isn't an option though? Maybe you don't have enough money or just can't be bothered to make your way to the pet store. Have no fear. There are quite a few really neat hamster toys that you can put together yourself. Here are few basic ideas.

A common cardboard roll can make for a great hamster toy. If you have a little hamster, you probably want to use a cardboard tube from a toilet paper roll. For chubbier rodents, go with the tube from a paper towel roll. My hamster adores these rolls. Just place it in his cage and watch him rip through his own personal tunnel. For added excitement, you could even combine multiple tubes into an obstacle course of sorts

Another great hamster toy that can be made for cheap is a simple box. All you need to do is take an empty Kleenex box and put it in your pet's cage. Make sure you remove any plastic from the box before doing so. This way your hamster won't eat anything that he's not supposed to. Rodent's love to hide and the Kleenex box allows him to do this. For real creative individuals, you can even take this toy a step further by connecting a few boxes with cardboard tubes. Make your little buddy a hamster castle!

The third hamster toy that I want to talk about is a little bit more difficult to make. It's basically a hamster maze created out of cardboard. In order to make this maze you need an empty flat of soda and some scrap cardboard. Take the empty flat and cut your hamster an entrance and an exit to the maze. Now cut the cardboard scraps into long strips that will eventually become the walls of the maze. Simply glue the strips into the flat, arranging the maze as you see fit. Place your little pet near the entrance to the maze and watch him go!

Making hamster toys at home isn't that difficult. With a bit of cardboard and a lot of creativity, you too can put together some pretty neat toys for your pet. You'll save money and have fun at the same time.

Are You A Wine Snob?

Tempranillo varietal wine bottle and glass, sh...Image via Wikipedia

by Johnny Angolini

Do you take the glass and swish the contents around after the Sommelier pours a small amount of wine in your glass, and then set your nose over the glass rim acting as if you know what the heck you are checking for?

If so, the show might look impressive to anyone slightly interested in your actions, but what if someone asks you what your are doing while performing this snobbish ritual? Will you have an answer or just be embarrassed?

In the early 20th century, when formal dining out was in it's hay day, it was or seemed to be chic to check the nose of the wine and test it on your palette. But those days have gone by... And I mean long ago! So for your sake, please don't ever do that when presented a bottle of wine at your table in a restaurant. Even if you are prompted to do so by the Sommelier or even a friendly waiter trying to score points with your party. Do not and I mean do not do this.

If you do accept the challenge, chances are you and the server will end up at the center of an uncomfortable and awkward moment. So for both of you, just tell the wine Sommelier or server that you are sure the wine will be fine and let them pour and be on their way.

If you find yourself in the presence of someone who during dining out, finds it necessary to perform the afore mentioned ritual, know you are experiencing the wine snob. It's not uncommon for self professed wine experts to expose a wine to their palette and gently swallow it. Then springs forth from them, a barrage of flowery language describing a hint of Chocolate....a small slightly detectable taste of Watermelon or maybe even the flower of Blackberry. All quite a bit theatrical unless you are at a wine tasting club.

Quasi wine aficionados are a dime a dozen and very easy to spot. It's truly amazing to watch a wine drinker start spouting off flowery language attempting to describe which most often is just an average wine. And many times less than and average wine it turns out.

Best practice these days require that you select a wine that you like and enjoy. Nothing more and nothing less. It's important to realize that your taste is just as good and important as that of anyone else. After all. isn't the object of drinking wine to enjoy it and be sociable? Do you care what fruity smell it might have or whether some candy can be associated with it. I doubt it.

Here is a great money saving tip for enjoying wine during a dinner out. Call ahead and ask the restaurant manager if their establishment will allow you to bring your own bottle of wine and just add a corkage charge to your bill. Many upscale restaurants are fine with this practice. That way you really do get to drink a wine you like and not have to pay $20 to $30 or more for a bottle of $12 wine.

Regardless of the steps you take to enjoy your nite out or special gathering, do just that....enjoy yourself and let the wine snobs do their thing and look ridiculous. It will be a much more pleasant experience without going through a dog and pony show over the wine being served.
