Having Fun At the Traditions Craft Fair

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 4: An installati...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

A ringing of brass bells sounds out a chorus from the song "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". There are six people swinging the milk-bottle sized instruments, and believe it or not, all of them have never lifted a bell around half an hour ago. These people are only a few of the hundreds reliving some of England's forgotten arts at an event called the Lancanshire's first ever Traditions Craft Fair. This took place recently at the Lockstock Hall High School.

According to the chairman of Maghull Parish Ringers from Liverpool, Simon Rennie, Lancanshire was once constantly graced with fun and festivities. Then, there was this idea from some bright fellow that if you have bells that were a lot smaller than Church Tower bells, then you can ring the bells anywhere. There's no better place to ring them than in a pub.

Other people, in addition to the bell ringers, are also showing off their treasured crafts to everyone. The aptly named Natasha Twigg, for example, was there holding an ancient wooden contraption while she fashioned flowers made from bark stripped from pieces of wood. And there's also Linda Courthold; she began her quilting as a form of therapy, but she has since branched out and has made a profit from it.

A small part of the fun is an activity called the Rag Rugging Workshop. Go into the packed hall and see stalls selling homemade fudge, some adorable paintings, and ornaments to boot. Include the band that plays traditional folk songs playing on; there are simply a multitude of things to try out.

There are a lot of other events that you may truly enjoy, other than the Lancanshire Craft Fair. And even better, you may decide to present your crafts for scrutiny, and who knows, you may even be able to earn extra money by becoming an amateur vendor! So, go on and show the world what you can do!

There will be a concert by the Gypsy Nomads at The Magic Candle on April 2, 2009 the concert will start 7:00 P.M. The Magic Candle is located at 204 S., Audabon St. It will not be hard for anyone to find this because it is found at the center of Irvington.

The Gypsy Nomads makes new age type of music. Their music is made from punk, folk and the vineyards of southern France. They just added cabaret, celtic and neo-medieval flavor to make The Gypsy Nomads type of music. So when you attend their concert do not expect to hear traditional gypsy music.

The band or group is composed of two French born artists. Samantha Stephenson is a veteran of the punk era and she is an artist and a dancer. Samantha does the vocals, percussion, drums and is the songwriter of the group. The other member is Scott Helland that does the guitar, drums, and loops. When these two perform on stage you will experience the free spirited lifestyle of the gypsy. It has even been said that their performance is high octane and exciting

The Gypsy Nomads sings the songs in the combination of their guitar and percussion instruments and can sing it in English or French. They have sung in festivals, clubs, theaters, conventions, galleries, cafes and house concerts all over the US.

The Gypsy Nomads does not limit their song to concerts and festivals only but their music has also been featured in films like Rider. Their music has also been licensed by We TV Network and Harpo production. They have sold out CD reflecting their music when they perform on stage. With all their accomplishments it just shows how we love their music.
