Young People Everywhere Are Discovering The Warm Sound Of Audio Turntables

TurntablesImage by ryan.valle via Flickr

by Dan Jacobi James Farrel

According to one 17 year old, Roger Phylman who lives in California, he thinks that records have a better sound than the CDs do. He enjoys the cover art on the LPs as well. He doesn't remember when LPs were popular but recently found Beatles and Rolling Stone albums at his grandparents. His uncle got a player on eBay and now it's the highlight in his room and he enjoys the music.

Today there are a variety of manufacturers that are designing turntable systems that have the same designs from the past but with newer technology. A few of the manufacturers making these creations include jWin, teac, Crosely, and Memorex. Some of the great features on these new systems include stacking more than record, using USB connections, and even recording to CD.

When it comes to the gift giving time of Christmas, nostalgia turntables are one of the top sellers according to Classic Buys' Raman. Some of the most popular brands that are sold include Memorex, Teac, Thomas Pacconi, and Crosley each year.

Many people today prefer to go with top brand names and turntables that provide you with various features. Consumers often go with four in one systems that play the radio, cassettes, records, and CDs. Top brands are usually purchased as well, such as Teac and Crosley. Features are important to most consumers today, such as the feature to record to CD or Stack-O-Matic features. With the Stack-O-Matic you are able to stack up several records and play continuously, and then with the recorder, you can take your LPs and record them onto CDs for your listening pleasure.

According to the president of Crosley Radio, Bo LeMastus, the purest form of music is really on vinyls. This has made reproductions of turntables a top promotion in the past holiday seasons. Since the capture what people really want on the record, you just can't get the same sound on a CD. Something is lost in the translation.

Crosley continues to do well offering great replicas of audio turntables that go through time. They have introduced turntables and vintage radios that look great and offer great new technologies as well. Some of their collections include turntables, style record players, compact disc players, audio cassette players, telephones, jukeboxes, music boxes, radios, and many other options. They offer great designs and crafting, top lines, and more, which has made them the top vintage electronics manufacturer out there today. Not only do they look great, but Crosley has made sure that they are function for consumers as well, allowing you to enjoy your nostalgia.

Crosley sold 400,000 record players in 2005, and he predicts greater sales this year. Joe D'Angelo of Teac, which also sells reproductions, says sales tripled last year. He figures 10 billion albums are still sitting on home shelves. With the new units -- Teac's and Crosley's players, with speakers, start at $100 -- "here's a way to play the music again."

Of course these sales don't even compare to the sales of CD players, which have sold millions of units. These sales are small enough that they are not even tracked at all by the Consumer Electronics Association. However, among DJs and rap fans, they definitely still have a home today.

There are two camps of turntable buyers out there today according to Dave Glassman, who is from Restoration Hardware, that provides turntables and more on it's website, in catalogs, and in stores. Those who are over 35 still have LPs are in one group and then there is the group of kids who find the LPs and want to hear what they are all about. Crosley and Teac have come up with new models putting together the new and old. One is the 4in1 Entertainment Center by Crosely, which includes CD player, radio, cassette deck, plays vinyls of all speeds, and costs about $229 for the whole setup.

Government Seized Properties - What Realtors don't want You to Know

An auctioneer and her assistants scan the crow...Image via Wikipedia

by Jeff Crossman

Government surpluses and abandoned properties are sold at government auctions to the general population at discounted prices. There are government auctions held in every state many times a month. No matter where you live in US or Canada, you'll be able to find great deals at these auctions. Consider the investment possibilities or even starting your own business.

Surplus inventory sold at government auctions come from the federal, state, and local governments. Often the government has a large surplus of unneeded items, and will liquidate them to the public at one of their many auctions. This can happen often as the government's equipment requirements are constantly changing.

Quite often many of the government auction items come from businesses declaring bankruptcy. These items can be virtually anything from existing inventory to general assets including furniture, equipment, jewellery, antique items, fur coats, computers, etc.

Seized properties can consist of foreclosures, bankruptcies, criminal properties, etc. These properties can also be purchased at government auctions. Depending on the circumstances the police may seize property if the owner is sentenced to jail.

A property is considered abandoned if the owner dies and has no known relatives alive to inherit, or if the owner walks away from it for whatever reason. This can happen if the owner feels the house is worth less then he currently owes. This has been happening quit often lately in a declining housing market.

You can find out where government auctions are going to be held in your area, as well as the listings that will be available, through the Internet. There are many government auction websites (some are great and some are scams) that charge a membership fee to provide listings and information regarding abandoned/seized properties, and surplus items.

Make sure you read government auction reviews so you'll know which membership sites are the best. You will become educated on the best opportunities that government auctions can provide.

Know the Competition When Selling Your Art on the Internet

Halloween Witch Painting Blythe inspiredImage by cinnablythe via Flickr

by Leigh-Ann Lemire

Knowing what your competition is actually doing is beneficial when it comes to selling your art on the internet.

Corruption in the art world and making a profit off of the hard work of artists is not a new subject. Artists copying the works of famous painters, including the signatures and then selling the works for a huge profit and factory hand painted art are just a few of the things your "competition" is up to that you need to watch out for.

An Imitator Selling for Less

Some years back, I knew a very talented artist that sold his art in an area for artists to sell at the ocean in Southern California. His style was western art that was textured and colorful with incredible sunsets and lighting. It went with any decor at home or in a business. He sold a lot, had repeat customers and referrals.

The area had many artists with booths. One of the regular artists saw the success of the western style painter. Instead of staying true to himself, he copied the work of the other - it didn't look as good. To make matters worse, he set his prices lower and took away business from the western style artist.

You can find the same thing now occurring online. Spend a while each week to look at what other artists are doing to ensure that you are not being copied. When describing your art, be sure to mention that it is original and that you have painted in the same style for a number of years.

Factory Produced Original Art

There are assembly lines of people that have one part of a painting to do before sending it on the conveyor belt to the next person who adds his part. The "artists" are trained to rapidly paint a certain part of a painting. The entire painting is done within a matter of a couple minutes.

You may find the most incredible huge painting that is framed for less than a hundred dollars - something just isn't right with that. A real artist is unable to purchase the supplies such as canvas and paints for the price the mass produced painting is sold for.

When you next see a seemingly gorgeous piece of art that is being sold for an extremely low price, you can guess it is created by the competition as above.

The Make a Buck Off Art People

I recently read an artist on how to sell art online thinking that there were going to be tips for artists to sell their works. The article was not about helping artists, it was about exploiting artists to make a living. It went into how to find cheap art and then sell it for a profit. It outlined how to find art at auctions, tag sales, thrift shops and other places. The article went on to say how it was more profitable to get paintings that were signed as you can get more money that way.

The article writer explained in detail how to take advantage of artists for your own profit. When selling your own paintings and creations, be sure to mention that it is an original painting that you created. Say that you are an artist that is selling your art to make a living.

Cut Rate Pricing

While researching, I found an original artist selling his works on eBay. For an artist, eBay has a huge amount of competition from low prices to the quantity available. Then there is the competition from the sellers of art that are explained earlier in this article.

This artist made sales but not in a way that would help him to stay in business. One of his auctions was for a matching set of three paintings. He did as his competitors did and put free shipping on the auction. The auction started at a ridiculously low price and ended at $150. For the size of the canvas and supplies - even if he got them at wholesale, plus pay for the shipping, the artist did not make any money. He didn't get any payment for his time. This artist in business was creating a "losing" instead of a living with his art.

Point out what is good, special and original with your art and forget about attempting to keep up with the competition. Know what your competition is doing, but don't do the same. You are your own real asset because you are authentic, original artist - you are very valuable.
