The Evolution of the Trumpet

WASHINGTON - JUNE 15: Jazz musician Wynton Ma...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

By Jim Samposzi

The trumpet, an instrument belonging to the woodwind or brass family, is built primarily of brass or bronze and has: a mouthpiece, bell, a spit valve, and keys. Trumpets are instruments operating fully chromatic because it consists of three separate keys for tone control. Some can also have a trigger operation to fix bad notes by the use of the three main keys. This line can be initiated while playing the trumpet and the difference is so little that it will be unheard when it is used. The spit valve is helpful for releasing any fluid that has slid into the chambers of the instrument. The history of trumpets is fascinating and they go as far back in time; as far in history as 2000 B.C.

The melody of this instrument are created by the coupling, inclusion, or emulation of the three top keys. The sound generated is achieved through the vibration of your lips as it relates to the mouthpiece and then changed further by the buttons before the sound reaches the horn, or end, of the instrument. The development of combinations of notes and keys became very important to the expansion of certain types of music. Seeing as the finger controls can be adjusted to any tone, all types of music has been known to include a trumpet from time to time.

Trumpets are pitched specifically for the soprano range of tones. This means, the chromatic range of pitches produced are from F sharp down to C - before the clef controls air for treble ranges. Though, the broad range of options for trumpets are not confined to this range; some belt out notes in the G and high C area.

Trumpets, like many pieces of merchandise, come in various styles and types. Some are preferred over others. Furthermore, and due to this range, they vary widely in price. In addition, lots of them have other abilities for pitching that the others do not. A few of the more common types of trumpets are:

Piccolo, Brass, Herald, Natural, Slide and Bronze

This incredible instrument was invented in 2000 B.C. where it was used in religious service. The first styles included objects to create sound, like: a piece of bamboo, or antler, or bone. The bible contains many references to these instruments and they were pulled from in the burial grounds of the historic Egyptian King, Tutankhamen. From the 14th century, makers developed the folded trumpet that resembles the trumpets of modern days where the metal tubing is folded and contoured from bell to lip position. The beginning of these instruments was merely straight and long with a horn on one end and a mouthpiece on the other. When operas were popular, the trumpet was put to the stage in 1607 during a well-known Opera called Orfeo. In time, trumpets were included in military communications but were later developed to play music. In the 19th century, trumpets became the primary instrument for symphony orchestras. Today, the trumpet can be seen in jazz productions, military groups, marching groups, and at times, rock bands.

The Art of Chuck Rosenthal

Still-life painting (after)Image by rockYOface via Flickr

By Chuck Rosenthal

Chuck Rosenthals art has a warmth of color that draws the viewer into the paintings. He paints many subjects " still life, landscape, people on the beach or men working construction " but his own unique form of painting glows in each one. Viewers wish they were there.

On a cold winter day, one of his landscapes or sea scenes would make you feel the sun shining on your head.

You can almost smell the flowers and taste the fruit of his still life paintings. Rosenthals technique presents sufficient detail to give the viewer the rough feel of the pottery and the cool smoothness of the glass without overdoing it.

Overworking a painting " too many details, too many brush strokes, often marks the work of beginning artists. Rosenthals art has the look of a professional. There are no overworked paintings in his gallery.

His subject matter is simple, everyday things with which people can identify and feel comfort. No grouse and hunting firearms in these still lifes. Daffodils and grapes and apples and irises populate his paintings, things you can find in the modern world, but which take you back to a simpler life.

If you went to a oceanside tomorrow you might find some of Rosenthals subjects " a little girl playing, a child and her father playing in the sand, a grandmother and granddaughter watching the surf. There is nothing lofty or idealistic here.

But the paintings convey more than the ordinary. Or perhaps, one should say, they elevate the ordinary to a higher plane, inviting the viewer to join in the artists admiration of life and light in the world around us.

To read more about the artist, visit his website www.chuckrosenthalfineart.com. But better than reading about his awards and struggles as an artist, view his gallery page, and see the way this artist views the world. Its fascinating.

Taormina - a satellite dish camouflaged as a s...Image via Wikipedia

By Ashley Patrick

People nowadays are becoming more receptive to the option to watch free TV on PC over the conventional satellite or cable subscription to view their sought after shows and programs. What this means is that more and more people are now utilizing this means of technology.

People now know that a choice exists between the monthly subscription fees that we pay to network services and that which we get when we watch free TV on PC. This means that people are given the privilege to actually enjoy viewing will lesser cost.

We all know how costly a cable or satellite subscription actually is. This is no doubt and sometimes we are pained with the fact that this means to enjoyment actually becomes a burden as it adds up to the expenses which we have yet to cover month by month.

A typical connection normally comes for about $40 dollars and should you wish to have add-ons and extras on the service, then this may very well reach up to $100 dollars. Looking at this amount of money which we allot and actually spend for programming subscription, it is but normal for us to feel that it is somehow impractical. This most especially becomes emphasized when we reckon the days when we didnt have cable not satellite to begin with.

It is an ever-changing world which we actually live in and day by day, more and more inventions are created by our fellow humans to help make us live our lives easily and comfortably. The technology to watch free TV on PC thus proves to be a very convenient and yet practical means to enjoyment.

As mentioned, this proves to be a very practical means instead of wasting our hard earned money to cable or satellite companies which we maintain subscriptions to. This most especially makes a lot of sense given the recession that we are experiencing.

Do take note that cutting ties with your cable or satellite provider does not translate to the end of your enjoyment when it comes to entertainment. What you are actually doing is providing yourself with a wider selection as you are now more open to options which you can get access to with this kind of PC technology.

When you watch free TV on PC, you are able to get more stations that you will typically would with a cable or satellite subscription. What Can Be Learned From A Ballroom Dance?

Ballroom DancingImage by Bella March via Flickr

by Darly Summers

Our resources contain tons of excellent articles. This is just one of them.

Ballroom dance refers to types of social dances that require two people to dance together following a few standard steps. Ballroom dance is a derivation from the word 'ball' (social events attended by elites in the early 18th century), that consecutively originates from the Latin word 'ballare' meaning "to dance". The most common ballroom dance forms can be distinguished into Viennese Waltz, Modern Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep and the various forms of Latin Dances.

Originating somewhere betwixt the late 18th and early 19th century in England, ballroom dance was practiced by the privileged class in parties and balls. By degrees over time and during the nineteenth century, ballroom dance became a fad among the working classes and middle classes who took part in social dance events. In the nineteen hundred twenties, the reputation of ballroom dance contests rose dramatically with the result of the setting up of the Ballroom Branch of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in Nineteen twenty-four that was instrumental in standardizing the steps, music and performance of ballroom dance. Today, ballroom dance is performed not only in Europe, but in the Asian-Pacific and the Americas as well. Official ballroom dance contests referred to as DanceSport are commonly available for ballroom exponents with various degrees of skill levels.

The various ballroom dance forms come from various settings and boast of exclusive artistic values, tempos, techniques and beats. In spite of these discrepancies, all ballroom dance forms have common related characteristics. Executed by a couple (generally by a male and a female, these dances demand that they perform in a set pattern which is prominently referred to as the 'Close Hold'. This posture demands that the 2 people uphold 5 regions of contact, i.e. 3 hand contact spots where the male's left hand holds the female's right hand, the female's left hand is placed on the male's right upper arm and the male's right hand is positioned below the left shoulder blade on the female's back; 1 elbow contact spot where the female's left elbow is positioned on the male's right elbow and both arms are positioned in a horizontal line facilitating the easy movement; 1 chest contact spot where the right area of the chest of the male contacts the right area of the female facilitating the manifestation of feelings and sentiments betwixt the couple.

To conclude, being one of the finest expressions of love, joyfulness and pain between two people, ballroom dance is a fad that will never fade away.

Improve Your Online Art Sales

This photograph of an invite for the Cranach e...Image by AFP/Getty Images via Daylife

by Leigh-Ann Lemire

When researching online, I found many entries that gave advice for pricing art that mentioned you should go to Etsy and eBay to find comparable art and price yours the same way. This is a pretty good rule to follow but there are things to consider when pricing your art so that you make a profit.

Within your price, you need to include replacing the materials that you used otherwise you will not be able to make more art to sell. Additionally, you need to tack on another five percent so that you can get extra supplies to grow your art business. Your talent, skills and time that went into creating your art should also be taken into consideration. You are very valuable!

To boost your sales, write a detailed explanation about your piece of art. Be specific about the manner in which you created the work, the supplies that you utilized and interesting things about the piece or what happened when you were creating it.

What is the story about that piece of art that you created? How did you get inspired to do it? Weave a tale and it will enable you to sell more art online.

The most important point to know when selling your art online is - take great pictures. Taking great pictures tells a story that words alone cannot convey. It isn't hard to take great pictures of your art. To do so, place your creation on a black matte material on a flat surface such as the floor or a table. Then climb up a step ladder and take the picture from above.

Take many pictures, take close-ups of different parts of the artwork and be sure to include the full piece as well. Crop your pictures so that each one is the same width size so that the pictures line up neatly within the description.

You want to go for professionalism in your description, so photographs that align are one key point to keep in. Having photos the are different widths from tiny to huge looks unprofessional. Maintain consistency on the width to create professionalism.

As a note, the height can be different as long as the width is the same. The width should be between 400 - 500 pixels wide but no more. Doing so creates some white space around the photographs which makes viewing on a computer screen easy on the eye which means more likelihood that a person will be interested enough to read your description and look at your pictures.

The finishing touch of your online sales copy to sell your art should be to speak about the benefits of owning the painting to the potential buyer. After-all, you didn't do the piece of art for yourself, you did it for an audience. Don't focus on only speaking about yourself, write as if you are speaking to a single person.

You want your art to be owned by the person that it communicates the best to - so speak about the benefits of ownership such as pride, that it's original and no one else has one like it, it's signed, the colors are a perfect accent to a home or office and so on. Think of as many reasons you can that a person would want an original painting and add the info to your description.

A good idea is to add a short bio about you and your works. Make it two or three sentences maximum. This give your potential buyers more confidence in you.

To give an overall professional appearance to you text and picture presentation, create short paragraphs of no more than 4 sentences. Doing so makes the entire presentation more easy to read because of the amount of white space.

Have a great time selling your artistic creations and may you prosper.

How to Have fun at Craft Fairs

Agra, India, street craft.Image via Wikipedia

by Mara Hernandez-Capili

Everyone of us have been to craft fairs and we all have extreme fun to be there. There are also craft fairs that are downright boring and seem to be a waste of time and energy to go to. I know for I have been to one. The food was a-okay but the attendants are not- they must have forgotten about customer service for they are not smiling all throughout the event. There are also vendors that sell goods that are not of good quality.

At craft fairs you are entitled to have fun and have a great time but the problem is how? How can we differentiate a bad craft fair to a good one? Every experience at craft fair should be a good and rewarding one, otherwise the whole point of going is useless. Craft fairs should be fun and engaging places to relax, unwind and have a great time.

How to distinguish a good craft fair to a not so good one? First: check the lessons or instructional classes they have and try to have a go with these questions. Are they recent? Are they relevant and in tune to what is happening around us? Are the beneficial? And if they will benefit you, will the benefit everyone else?

Second, inspect the food kiosk or counters. Look if what they offer are good and mouth enticing delicacies. Hey, it is possible that you'll get hungry or thirsty in the event while checking out the craft fair and a good meal should leave you always in a good mood. See if the food is agreeable and for sure you will have a lot of great stops in the craft fairs.

Third, check out the place, the bazaar and the performances. Is the place a great venue to hold a craft fair? Is it safe? Are the items at the bazaar winners? Do the sellers offer respect and answer the buyers' questions adequately? Do the performances further enrich the experience? If the answers to all of these questions are a resounding YES-then you're indeed going to have fun at the craft fair.

About the Author:
Mara Hernandez-Capili is a writer and a researcher on events in Travel and Leisure. Visiting events such as craft fairs will open one's spirit on the beauty of the world beyond home's borders. If you're staying in the United States, the author suggests checking out craft shows for entertainments to make your stay worthwhile.

Craft Exhibit Selling Angles

Amber pendants. The oval pendant is 52 by 32 m...Image via Wikipedia

by Ethan O. Tanner

A beneficial beginning scheme constitutes attempting to connect to the marketplace you're marketing to at this bazaar. Seek to capture a common sense feel of what kind of bunch you are working with at your approaching craft appearance and supply your items to that group of people. Traveling to the exhibit annually represents the most effective manner to acquire this, in that respect are additional techniques you are able to exercise. Is the city where the craft exhibit running representing mostly higher class or intermediate class? You might prefer to aline your pricing accordingly.

Are the customers going to be children or older people? If the craft show is near or in a school I almost always bring along a few "Kid Displays" where I place all my small plastic bead jewelry. I've had more than one child drag her parents over to my table to see the pieces I put out especially for them. If you're going to be showing in or around a nursing home you might want to consider changing your inventory. Older customers love beaded eyeglass chains, bracelets with large, easy clasps and "smoother" beads that aren't sharp on when lying against bare skin.

Business Cards are affordable and a outstanding reference of business enterprise and follow up sales event. Each time I sell an art object of jewellery at a craft appearance I packet it in a dandy little bag with my business card inside. I exercise this since although I already sold an art object of jewellery, I oftentimes have people getting hold of me a long time, months and even years later on to determine if they can order the equivalent or related art object for admirers and relatives. I in addition to list my internet site on the cards so people may shop and purchase my items in the comfortableness of one's own dwelling!

It is important to be flexible with your pricing. I generally do not put price tags on any of my pieces. This way people need to ask about pricing and I can adjust my price up and down a few dollars on the fly, based on the type of audience, the size of the crowd and whether or not I really want to sell the piece. And, yes, my prices sometimes change throughout the day.

Many attendees arrive at craft shows looking to haggle, thus it is occasionally sensible to give a cost some dollars to a higher amount than you would ordinarily expect therefore you've some dickering room. Tho' you might be embarrassed with this first off, I discovered it to be really helpful. I can't narrate how numerous pieces I have sold after speaking with the buyer and visiting regarding the cost. Among my preferred techniques is to sell a couplet of earrings with a beady bracelet for merely a couple of dollars more. The buyer likes getting a "bundled" deal and I like marketing two pieces and earning a trifle more money.

Ways of paying are important for succeeding at your craft appearance. Cash is plainly favored, but cheques are effortlessly accepted. All told my hours of working craft shows I have not been cheated ona bed check. A lot of people bring in cash to craft shows, only at times in that respect are simply so many a item being purchased that by the time the person gets to your cubicle she could not have any money left!

Charge cards are a little harder. If you are going to affirm the charge card then you will require an electric source and a phone connection of some sort.
