Decorating With Area Rugs

by Courtney Tillis

An area rug is the fastest and easiest way for you to change the character or mood of your room. If you are looking for a way to give it those finishing touches that you've been looking for or revitalize an old room, an area rug is the way to go. An area rug can add much needed class to your room and you are able to choose from a wide variety of Persian, floral, Tribal and contemporary.

It is highly recommended that you start your decoration plans from the ground up. Make sure that you measure your rooms and that will allow you to envision what size rug or rugs would best suit your needs. You will want to start with the carpets and rugs that will be your floor covering and then work around those to coordinate your look. Area rugs have the tendency to combine perfectly with sectionals but people should always select their area rugs that go well with their sofas. Another very important thing to keep in mind is quality. As there are different types and styles of area rugs, there are also different qualities. There is an area rug out there to suit every budget.

Aside from the decorative role of area rugs, practicality is another factor to consider. Outdoor and high-traffic areas such as the patio, porch, entryway and kitchen should have rugs that are durable and long-lasting and not just pretty. A hardwood flooring can make a lot of noise, especially for running feet and high-heeled shoes, so an area rug that is thicker than normal will do well in absorbing the annoying sounds. In addition, the kitchen and bathroom are more susceptible to dirt, moisture and such, which can easily soil a floor decor. Therefore, a rug that is easy to wash and dry is ideal to save you the time and effort of cleaning.

It's actually very easy to select area rugs ideal for your home, mainly if you already have an existing theme. All you have to do is to match the area rugs with the color, design and decorations of the rooms. Otherwise, decide on a theme before you shop for area rugs.

The budget is not an issue. Area rugs come in so many different types that their prices vary as well. Authentic and traditional-made rugs are obviously more expensive, but synthetic rugs look good too and much friendlier to the pockets. There are also replicas of the more costly Persian, Oriental and Tribal rugs. Without spending the same skyrocketing rates, you can have similar-looking rugs at home.

This tells us then that shopping for and using area rugs in our homes are not at all stressful. Looking for the perfect stilettos can actually be more nail-biting. With the affordable prices and the amazing collections of rugs accessible in department stores, home depots and rug stores, we can bet we can shop at our heart's content. We will find those perfect area rugs...as perfect as the classy shoes and designer bags we see in our dreams.

Consider Rococo In The Kitchen

An example of a flooring job.Image via Wikipedia

by Jefferson Bowing

The elegance of Rococo art has been sought after in design since its onset in the 1800's. This French element looks lovely in any room of your home. Rococo pieces are readily available in modern accessories as well as traditional antiquities. One excellent location to use this design element is a breakfast nook.

Create the full affect of the 19th century Rococo look when you are enjoying a nice delicious croissant. You can get this look and feel from your home and not at an expensive restaurant. There are a few tips to help you create the look and feel of the Mediterranean without traveling anywhere.

The term Rococo is derived from a combination of the French rocaille, referring to arrangements of stone in natural patterns and the Italian barocco, referring to Baroque art. These terms combine beautifully to describe every element of this art form. This allows modern society a clearer view of the choices made by Rococo artists when they implemented the hard natural aspects of iron and stone in such a light airy manner. This understanding can also make your decorating choices easier.

If you are ready to create this look in your home here are a few suggestions. When picking out fixtures and furnishings you want to choose light wood. Try light oak or a white wash. You may also want to use this light wood on your flooring as well. Even though the traditional look of the 19th century France was natural stone flooring you can still create a Rococo room and use wood flooring.

You want to keep the accessories on the same theme. It's easy to find accessories that go hand in hand with the Mediterranean look. Try using wide curves that resemble shells or waves. Stone and cast iron decor are also a popular look of the French design.

When decorating your room you want to use the following colors combined: yellow, blue, red, white, and pink. Don't stick to one color but instead combine them together to create the look you are searching for. You want to use these colors from furniture to table runners.

Adding an area rug is a great way to combine all the colors together and achieve the look you are after. You will need to use a hard wood floor or a stone floor to get the complete look. Although this look of stone or wood is great it can make the floor cold so you can add an area rug to make the floor warmer.

Rococo is such a wonderful art to design your room around. Filling your home with classic elements like fixtures, furnishings, and accessories that hint at the beauty of the Mediterranean will brighten your life. This makes Rococo the right design choice for a breakfast nook or any other room of your home. Your room will no longer be just a room. It will be a work of art.

Area Rugs For Creating Balance And Expressing Oneself

KColorEditImage via Wikipedia

by Tyson Cromwell

The art of interior design rests purely on establishing harmony of the various home decoration items used. Colors of the various components incorporated into a room's decoration must at all times express a harmonious theme and complement each other in forming a single profile rather than shout out individually. A room, in which furniture, window curtains, rugs and wall hangings stand out individually in distinctive colors and artwork, makes the room look disorganized and even shabby.

The choices of colors, theme, decorations and furniture are dependent on the owner's preference. Home decorating is a personal project. Personality and style are expressed through the selection of things and the home becomes a reflection of who the owner is. A space also looks more homely with personalized items that show a glimpse of the owner's life, such as photographs, vacation souvenirs, memorabilia and other things that are part of the owner's experiences.

Home decorating being a personal journey and a manifestation of the owner's self, may or may not be pleasing to others. Taste varies after all, so expecting that everybody who has seen your home to share your sentiments is absurd. The end goal should be a home that is comfortable for a human to live in and nice enough for visitors to come in.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so says the old adage. Therefore, what may look attractive to the homeowner may not be the case for her family and friends. What may seem like a pretty okay place for her may be impressive for other people. Incorporating what people think and aiming for people's approval is a lost cause. The important thing is to create a home that is inviting, warm and well kept, perfect for both relaxation and entertainment. It's a restful place for the owner, yet an ideal place too for welcoming visitors.

Home decorating is all about the homeowner's choices. For one, it is her place and she'll be living there far longer and way more frequent than her guests. Second, it's her money we're talking about. Others may prefer for the owner to splurge but it's her budget that will rule. No matter what, it should be a home comfortable to live in and where the owner feels right to be in.

That is why one can easily read opulence or simplicity, casualness or sophistication in a person by looking at how his or her room is set out. What gives out this look is not just one item placed strategically in the room rather, it is the whole picture incorporating the furniture, rugs, mats, curtains and other items decorating the room: Each item complements with the others to form a picture representative of the person who chose it. What does your home decor say about you?

Harmony In Design

The feel of your rooms in your house can be directly correlated by what kind of decorating you have in it. Ask any interior decorating and they will tell you that certain colors will bring warmth into a room while others may cause the room to be sterile and cold. Bringing in a sense of peace through the decorating of your place will also be possible.

This will happen when all of the elements in the room have a good relation to each other. They do not all necessarily have to be matching items but if they have a grand, unifying theme, it can help. Additionally, if all of the items are arranged in a way where people can easily move through the room, there is a strong sense of harmony present. It is through this use of space and texture that a person will create the functionality and mood of a room and when these two elements are in sync with each other, harmony will be born.

If however you pick out furniture and rugs that go along well together you will create a room that will have a natural flow to it. With this flow and a room that is not crowded you can get that harmony from your design. The walls of your room should bring in some peace too. Maybe you have a painting that always makes you feel relaxed hanging that in your room and matching a rug to some sort of color in the painting you will have a great look. One that can be uniquely you and no one else will have. Maybe you put up some great family photos and get an area rug that goes with the color of the couch instead.

One other thing an area rug can be great for is if you have too colors that don't quite match or furniture and wall decorations that are a bit less flowing. You can get a rug that will bring the two items together nicely, which will give your room a very harmonious feel and peacefulness about it.

Again the color you choose to put on the walls can completely change what a room feels like. Maybe you want to make the colors of the wall match closer with the rug you have placed in the room. Picking a color that will attach two items together will have a natural flow to the look of your room. With that flow you will have an ongoing sense of peace and harmony. Most of the time, a bold color if done incorrectly will only make your room seem busy and distracting. But if you go about adding a nice bold color and having a nice area rug that goes with it, this can be a great way to bring some harmony into your room.

Finding ways to pair items in the room up with other items can make a room work together in a lasting way. If an area rug is situated around furniture with a similar color scheme, it will provide a sense of belonging. If the artwork on the walls can find traces in the items placed around, it too, will belong. This will provide the most harmonious sensation of all, making the room a huge decor success.
