The Upsides and Downsides to Living in Small Towns

A community of interest gathers at Stonehenge,...Image via Wikipedia

By Chuck R Stewart

Living in a small community can be the perfect fit for some people, and not work for other people at all. The suburban houses with Richardson fence look quaint and adorable to some and disgusting and robotic to others. Living in such a community, with a big house and a fence in Plano Texas has its pros and cons. It is a great area to raise children. Good schooling, safe areas and lots of playmates are available. The people often spend time together as a community, building lasting friendships. On the other hand, areas like this have a tendency to shelter themselves from the real world. Some people can't handle this factor. It can also send those who have lived there for their entire lives into a culture shock when they leave.

Bringing up families in small, close-knit towns seems beneficial to most parents. Kidscan be raised in a well structured and safe community. Most small communities have good school systems. So children receive a top-notch education with no extra price other than living. Also, most families in the area have children, so there are play-mates galore. Children build lasting friendships with next-door neighbors in small towns. It is a luxury to be so close to their peers while growing up.

Also, moms and dads benefit from the close relation to other families. Often, since they are smaller and nicer, the adults have lots of groups and clubs that they can meet other parents through. Men get together for things like poker, father-son lacrosse leagues, and basketball. Women can start gardening or book clubs, babysitter circles, and exercise groups. Also, things like traveling dinners are popular. A traveling dinner is when a group of couples go to each others houses for different courses of a meal throughout the night. The availability for these types of adult activities creates lasting friendships for the parents in the community.

However, some people dont like small towns because they are not very in-touch with reality. The perfection and good fortune that surround the children often gives them a twisted view of the world. Also, the fact that most people in these areas are wealthy contributes to the childrens misinterpretation of life. Some find this annoying if they have not lived there their entire lives. Also, when kids leave for college and things they often experience a big culture shock. Being thrown into the real world after growing up in the clean, well groomed society they were used to is a big change.

Small towns are both good in bad at the same time. A lot of the people who live in them will testify that it is a perfect place to live, and those who don't live there will tell you differently. They dont fit all personalities. Raising children in small towns can be an ideal situation. Schools are good, there are lots of similar families and it is a safe area. Also, adults find themselves very social and involved in these tighter-knitted communities. Some people feel that small town have a tendency shelter their inhabitants from the real world. Some feel very at home in a small town, where as some feel estranged.

How to Learn the Slowest Martial Art in Existence!

By Al Case

Okay, here's something that will really ring your bell--you are learning the martial arts using the slowest method of education in existence in the world. This is absolutely true. And it is propagated through the mysticism and awe of attaining something that, should you use a method of learning a bit more modern in scope and design, would speed your progress up by a factor of ten.

The martial arts utilize a method that has worked for the history of the world, for monkeys. This is the monkey see monkey do method. Using the monkey see monkey do method, you are trained to memorize random strings of data.

That's correct, random strings of data. As a matter of fact, to be sure, it is random strings strings of random data, and everything is held together through mystical concept. Not logical concept that makes sense, but mystical concept that makes you go, Oooo!

That system of kung fu, the one based on an animal--I have never heard of an animal being able to think logically. Oh, you fight like an animal, and with an animal's...logic. What you're telling me is that the movements that look like an animal have been gathered together so you could copycat them.

Copycatting is not a concept, and it is not logical. Copycatting is doing what you're told...or, in the martial arts world, sold. Lots of money in selling copycat methods, because you can just keep rearranging the strings of data and fool people into thinking they are getting something scientific.

Now, you might think that I am down on the martial arts because of what I have said here. The opposite is true, I am so in love with the martial arts it is unbelievable. I don't, however, subscribe to antiquated methods of learning.

My particular method is to take the mysticism of the martial arts, use logic to align it, and learn ten times faster than the next guy. This method, which is almost in direction opposition to any method you have ever seen, is called Matrixing. Matrixing is an actual scientific process--it is not the latest psuedo-science-jargon (cybermind, cranial digitation, neural brain logging, and that sort of made up so on) that internet marketers use to sell their tricks.

The question I sometimes get is...how does it work? Consider: if you had 6, 5, 1, 9 and a shaved dog, you wouldn't know how to count. If you had 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. 6 and so on...you would know how to count.

What I do is line up the martial concepts in a counting manner, so there are no missing numbers, no out of sequence numbers, and no ridiculous concepts thrown in. When people learn in this fashion it is possible to learn, as I said, as much as ten times faster. Of course it depends on the person doing the learning, and whether they have a basic education, and so on.

Having said the above, it was not easy to develop Matrixing. In fact, it took me a trio of decades, as there was no precedent for what I was doing. The work is done, however, and martial artists the world over can now escape from...the slowest method of learning in existence.

Why you Should Attend Driving School

by John Robertson

Attending driving school and taking driving lessons is very important as driving school will teach you the correct way to drive and start you off as a safe driver with no bad habits from the beginning. Many times learning how to drive from your friends and family will not actually teach you the proper way to drive and you may having difficulty passing your driving exam as your friends have passed on their bad driving skills to you.

Learning to drive on your own or by learning from your parents or friends will install bad driving habits and may require you to take the test multiple times as you will not pass the first time around.

In order to have the confidence you need when driving it is important to start well before taking your drivers exam. This means actually enrolling in a full course and allowing enough time so that you can comfortably learn all of the rules and actions of driving without feeling rushed or forgetting things. You will find that many car insurance policies will insist on an adolescent taking lessons from a recognized driving school before allowing them on the insurance.

Drivers that have completed a driving course tend to be more confident then those that have not. These drivers attended a full course of driving lessons, as you cannot really be confident until you have completely mastered each driving lesson and skill. It is important to proceed in a steady manner as being rushed will cause you to forget things and you may relapse into bad behavior.

By taking a driving course you will be able to significantly decrease your insurance payments and if you participate in a defensive driving course you will be able to lower this even further. This is particularly important for young men under the age of 25, as they are the highest insurance risk of any age group. Most school will offer some sort of driver's education that will provide you with practical driving information as well as driving experience. It has been found that individuals that pass their drivers test on the first try have participated in some sort of driving course.

Many times your school will actually offer a driver education course that includes driving lessons. This should be taken advantage of as it will easily fit into your child's schedule and they will not have to spend any extra time, outside of school, attending driving school. Driver education courses will also culminate in the drivers test and you will receive a grade for them which can be incentive enough.

Most high schools will offer some sort of d riving course, as high school is the age when most teenagers can get their license. This is a great option, as the driving course will fit neatly into your child's schedule without creating extra confusion by being outside of school hours where it may conflict with other extra curricular activities. Besides obtaining their license the student also may be graded on the course, which can supply extra inspiration to do well.

Though many parents may have the desire to teach their children how to drive they may not have the necessary communication skills or up to date information needed so their child can successful obtain their knowledge. Over the years many driving habits will occur and even though you are a safe driver you techniques may not be accepted in a driving exam. Additionally many parents can become easily frustrated with their children while their children may have more respect for a driving instructor.
