Patio Cushions That Make An Affordable Yet Fashionable Statement

By Patti H Charleston

How much thought do you typically put into your selection of patio cushions? If you are like most people, you simply use the ones that come already stocked on your outdoor furniture. That is an easy thing to do, but have you ever considered that picking out your own cushions could set off the decor of your home and make a real fashion statement?

Home decorations and popular design arrangements can get extremely expensive. Unless you have a lot of free cash to throw around you probably cannot carry out even half of the great ideas you have for your home. If this is you, then it's time to get creative and find affordable ways to turn your home into your personalized castle.

You always have the option of choosing cushions for that outdoor space that actually add something valuable to your home. They could be the key to transforming that space into somewhere everyone wants to spend time. They can be used either as effective accents for other decorations or as a main focal point to the space.

The first consideration is color. Spend some time sitting out on your patio and looking around. Get a sense for the vibe of the space and start thinking of what colors you would like to draw out or add in. If you have flower arrangements, pots, tables, or other types of furniture sitting around decide what colors would fit well with those choices.

Along with color you will have to consider whether you need a solid fabric or if a pattern of some sort would make the best addition.

The style of the cushions should be considered next. You want them to blend well with the other items you have on your patio so come up with a theme or general idea of whether you want something more vintage and classically worn or maybe a southwestern flare.

There are also more contemporary and modern styles that come with bright, bold color patterns.

This is the basic information you need to start looking around for the perfect addition to your outdoor living space. This is your chance to find the perfect accent piece at a reasonable price, so make sure to look through online retailers to get a wider selection to choose from.

It is easier to just leave on the patio cushions that come already assembled to your outdoor furniture, but you are passing up an opportunity to tailor your outdoor space to your own personality and taste if you do so.

Are Dress up Games a Good Choice for Little Girls?

In Following the Fashion (1794), James Gillray...Image via Wikipedia

by Vlad Stivenson

No longer are little girls dreaming of having a baby doll that they can dress up in cute pink little outfits. Those kind of dolls might have been popular years ago but they are not anymore. The dolls that children are playing with these days are not plastic dolls that come with clothes and accessories. The modern form of the doll is the virtual doll that is in online dress up games. There are many different online dress up games where you can find these virtual dolls and their virtual clothes and accessories. These games give children the opportunity to dress and re-dress the dolls over and over again and there are no expensive dolls and doll clothes to buy.

What exactly do you have to have to play these games? The only things you need are a computer connected to the internet and your imagination. The clothes for these games do not need to be washed, dried and ironed or even stored in your home. All you do is drag and drop the outfits you want to put on the virtual doll. That is much easier than putting some of those complicated doll outfits on baby dolls.

You may wonder if these online dress up games are safe for your children to play or if you should be worried. You may also wonder if there is any educational value in these games or if they are just a waste of time. Your children are not going to improve their math skills, knowledge of science or history or their spelling abilities while playing these games but they can help them express their creativity and use their imagination. By creating outfits that go together children are learning about style, shapes and color and improving their artistic abilities. These online dress up games can lead to an interest in other artistic hobbies like drawing or painting. They can also help your children discover if a career in fashion design is the right path for them.

The best thing about online dress up games is they bring out your child's creativity and encourage them to use their imagination. The games may seem silly and trivial and you may wonder what your children could possibly get out of putting party outfits and swimming outfits on virtual dolls and then changing them into rocker outfits. What are the benefits?

Something to keep in mind is that these games encourage creativity and are a much better thing for your child to be doing than playing some of the extremely violent and graphic video and online games that are out there. There is little or no chance your child is going to be harmed or suffer mental issues as a result of dressing up virtual dolls but you can't say the same for bloody, violent game.

Ladies Tights - A Brief History and Today's Fashions

Black tights.Image via Wikipedia

by Summer Madesly

One fashion item that women will always love is ladies tights, as fashions may change but we will always need something to make our legs look lovely. The love affair with nylon began in the 1930's when nylon was invented, and since the 1960's, when nylon tights became widely available, women the world over have depended on them for comfort and practicality every day.

Nylon was cheaper than silk and so became widely used, although technology has moved even further since the invention of nylon, and tights and stockings are now made from lots of different materials. The invention of Lycra was another big milestone in the history of tights and it solved the problem of tights going baggy and wrinkly at the ankles. We even use it now in tights designed to shape and tone certain bits of the body, and there are whole ranges of Shaping hosiery available.

A classic and popular material for making warm winter tights is wool, which is comfortable, cosy and comes in many different colours. Wool tights are the perfect way to look stylish but stay warm during the winter months, and some very current colours include rich autumnal reds and deep, luscious purples.

When it starts to warm up a little but it's not quite spring women often turn to their faithful opaque tights. Opaque tights come in many different colours and deniers but they are a firm favourite for keeping legs covered and looking stylish as spring approaches.

The denier is how the thickness of the weave of the material of the tights is measured, it doesn't matter what the material is but the higher the denier the thicker the tights. Denier starts from about 5 denier, and sheer tights are usually somewhere between 5 and 30 denier. Opaque tights are usually 40 denier or higher.

Sheer tights are made from lots of different materials, like thicker tights, as the denier is irrelevant of the material.

Whatever your preference of style there are so many different styles and brands available to buy that you can get just about any sort of tights you like. They could be sheer, opaque, support, coloured, footless, wet look, shiny, matte, patterned, fishnet, or a combination of these!

Some women don't like wearing tights as they don't feel very sexy but you can get their alternative - stockings or hold ups - in nearly as many colours and styles. Tights can be very practical for every day but sometimes for special occasions you may prefer to go with stockings or hold ups as they make you feel more special.

Ladies tights will probably be around for as long as we are, and while fashions keep changing and technology advances we will probably change our tastes along with them, but we will never be without tights in our wardrobes!

Why Urban Jewelry is So Cool

Bead and wire styled Bracelet.Image via Wikipedia

by Jane Anani

Mens designer jewelry has recently become one of the fastest growing fashion trends thanks to fashion icons such as David Beckham. Long gone are the days when a man would wear just a watch or possibly a wedding ring. Men of today are embracing jewelry like they never did previously and the leading fashion is men's urban jewelry.

Urban jewelry is a cool contemporary look which has its origins in city life and designer lifestyles. The virile look is often accentuated by using stainless steel as the design material.

Stainless steel is a great choice for men's designer jewelry because it is versatile enough to withstand many different styles yet is durable enough to be worn every day. It's clean cool looks aren't unnoticed either.

Key urban designs for mens necklaces are abstract mens pendants - for example cones and other more unusual shapes and also mens chains made entirely from stainless steel with intricate details on the links. Crosses are a timeless pendant choice, but in the urban trend they usually have a unique addition such as an unusual shape, stone settings, or engravings on the surface.

Mens bracelets offer an extra opportunity for men to show off their urban style. Here the look is usually bold with cuffs, heavy links and the addition of stones for further designer appeal. Delicate chains don't get a look in and the bracelets are not worn to be tucked away or covered up. The style is all about masculinity and getting noticed - this style of bracelets for men is usually the focal point of a whole outfit and worn to be admired and talked about.

The urban look also enables personalization with the growing trend towards ID bracelets. Stainless steel is an ideal material for ID bracelets and by engraving bracelets for men, urban jewelry designers are keeping ahead in today's fashion stakes.
