The old road on the southern side of the St.Image via Wikipedia

By Matthew Kepnes

Meeting people on the road is the most important thing for any person traveling. The most joyous part about traveling is meeting other people. They make places and events fun. Even if you are already traveling with friends, its always fun to meet new people. If you are a solo travel, you have to meet new people or you will hate traveling. Luckily, there are many good places to meet other travelers.

One often overlooked way to meet other people on the road is via the website Couchsurfing. This website connects people with locals in cities who will give them free accommodation. For people who dont know where to go in cities or where to meet the locals, this site presents a good opportunity. You will be able to learn all the good things about the city only a local knows and be able to have someone take you out at night. Its a good opportunity to meet residents.

Long train or bus rides are great places to meet travelers. People get bored and are always looking for people to talk too. You can strike up a conversation with other people and travelers to learn about places to go and see. You can fill the time and get to know other people. Just ask them about something easy as a way to start the conversation. When you get to your destination, you will even have people to hang out with.

Hostels around the world are fast becoming popular places for people to stay while traveling. These places are rented out to youngsters as well as over 30s. Hostel is one place where you can bond with people from various cultures and races. It is a place where there is an interesting mix of cultures. Everyone just talks to each other and travelers are generally very friendly.

Some hostels even book buses, trains, trips and excursions for you if you need. They even have their own quirks like cheap beer nights. These are great ways to meet people and bond with roommates. Even if you are a shy person people will pull you into talking with them. That way you end up making great friends also.

Beginner travelers always worry about meeting other travelers. They are afraid that since they are alone they will have a hard time breaking into groups or talking to other people. However, there are many other solo travelers in the world and everyone is really friendly. Everyone talks to each other and there are a ton of places to meet people. Youll never be alone.

The Picnic Backpack For Active Lifestyles - Selection Tips

Ein Outdoor Rucksack {{de|Outdoor-Rucksack}} {...Image via Wikipedia

By Patricia C Thomas

Outdoor adventures with someone you love or the entire family are made more enjoyable with a picnic backpack. While a basket may be okay for short trips to the park down the street, longer trips will require something that is compact and can be carried without occupying both of your hands.

Depending on who will be doing most of the hauling and the amount of stuff that you want to carry on your trips, you will need to select the appropriate size of pack.

The sizes vary depending on the number of people who will be going on the trip, though you want to look at the overall size more than this number. There are more compact 2 person backpacks and then 4 person packs which can get quite large and bulky. Some larger sized products may even come with roller wheels.

If you will be traveling with children or taking them for outdoor experiences, you will likely want to purchase each child their own pack. There are some made specifically for children that are lighter in weight so they are easier to carry. This is absolutely essential for family outings because it will allow the parents to carry more compact, lighter packs as well. It will help your children to be more independent on the trip while lightening the load on your own back.

Another thing to consider is the arrangement of compartments inside the pack. Different models and brands will have different space arrangements, such as slots for placing bottled drinks or silverware and open spaces for stacking in food. Make sure that these compartments match up with what you will typically be carrying along.

There are some packs that are quite compact while still allowing you to carry along a lot of stuff. This a matter of design so make sure to look around and select one that will remain compact enough to be carried comfortably while still offering enough room to haul the amount of stuff you need to take along.

In the end, you want a picnic backpack that will hold up for some time even with consistent use. This means you should shop with functionality in mind more than just price. If you choose wisely, this could be a convenience investment that lasts for many years.

How to Have fun at Craft Fairs

Agra, India, street craft.Image via Wikipedia

by Mara Hernandez-Capili

Everyone of us have been to craft fairs and we all have extreme fun to be there. There are also craft fairs that are downright boring and seem to be a waste of time and energy to go to. I know for I have been to one. The food was a-okay but the attendants are not- they must have forgotten about customer service for they are not smiling all throughout the event. There are also vendors that sell goods that are not of good quality.

At craft fairs you are entitled to have fun and have a great time but the problem is how? How can we differentiate a bad craft fair to a good one? Every experience at craft fair should be a good and rewarding one, otherwise the whole point of going is useless. Craft fairs should be fun and engaging places to relax, unwind and have a great time.

How to distinguish a good craft fair to a not so good one? First: check the lessons or instructional classes they have and try to have a go with these questions. Are they recent? Are they relevant and in tune to what is happening around us? Are the beneficial? And if they will benefit you, will the benefit everyone else?

Second, inspect the food kiosk or counters. Look if what they offer are good and mouth enticing delicacies. Hey, it is possible that you'll get hungry or thirsty in the event while checking out the craft fair and a good meal should leave you always in a good mood. See if the food is agreeable and for sure you will have a lot of great stops in the craft fairs.

Third, check out the place, the bazaar and the performances. Is the place a great venue to hold a craft fair? Is it safe? Are the items at the bazaar winners? Do the sellers offer respect and answer the buyers' questions adequately? Do the performances further enrich the experience? If the answers to all of these questions are a resounding YES-then you're indeed going to have fun at the craft fair.

About the Author:
Mara Hernandez-Capili is a writer and a researcher on events in Travel and Leisure. Visiting events such as craft fairs will open one's spirit on the beauty of the world beyond home's borders. If you're staying in the United States, the author suggests checking out craft shows for entertainments to make your stay worthwhile.

Package Tours to Europe-An All-Inclusive Trip

We've all heard about Europe and many have probably dreamed of one day going there on vacation. Once you've finally decided to go to Europe for vacation, it's a big decision on where you want to and what to do. If you're in this predicament, you may want to consider a package tour to Europe. The advantage of a package tour is that your entire trip is planned without the stress of you having to do the planning and deciding.

What is a Package Tour of Europe?

If you want a fun-filled informative vacation but don't want to plan it, then a package tour is the answer. You can get just a basic tour or a more extensive tour. Even the basic package tour will include your hotel, transportation plus a daily schedule of things to do. Some of the tours will take you to the best restaurant in town for dinner. If you sign up for an escorted tour, they'll provide guides to help you get around the city. This is especially helpful if you are traveling to a city where you don't speak the language. Some of the tours include activities that you can choose or not choose to participate in. Many people enjoy going on bicycle tours or horseback riding or other outdoor activities.

Sometimes package tours of Europe are in just one city where others called "discovery tours" will allow you to see several different cities in several days. If there are certain things that particularly interest you such as wine tasting, cooking or art, they sometimes schedule these specialty tours just for that.

Why Would You Book a Package Tour to Europe?

Although many people prefer the independence of traveling on their own, booking a package tour to Europe may have its many advantages. One advantage is not having to do the planning. For many people, planning is the worst part, especially if you're traveling a long distance to a country that you are unfamiliar with such as Europe. Many times, a package tour is cheaper than if you traveled on your own. Some of the popular tourist sites offer discounts to the tour companies and those savings go to you as well. The travel guides that are part of the tours are usually residents of the area so they're very informed about the area.

Non-Traditional Package Tours of Europe

Non-traditional package tours of Europe are like specialty tours that will take you to specific places of interest to the individuals like wineries, cooking tours, food-tasting restaurants and tours like this. Other specialty tours may be golfing, boating, hiking, or bicycling. If you're interested in checking out reliable tour companies, you can get tour reviews and ratings online. They'll give package tours reviews, specialty tours reviews and even bicycle tours reviews.

Have a Great Vacation

A collage of The Seven Wonders of the (ancient...Image via Wikipedia

by Kermil J. Fogarth

Having worked hard for a year, you now need a stress relieving vacation to get away from it all and create some new memories to share with family and friends.

Taking your family along, if you have one, implies the fact that you must consult them when choosing a location. Surprises are always welcomed, but if you have children and you decide to spend your vacation in a city that has nothing fun to offer them, then the surprise turns into a nightmare. Going away from friends, even if for a week, seems to children something that requires an effort, so try and make them want that vacation by offering them exciting new things to do, things that can combine education and pleasure.

Having chosen a location the next thing to consider is the weather. It probably is different there than at home. For example, the mountains tend to be a little cool even in the summer so you should bring along clothing that is appropriate for that kind of weather. On the other hand, if you are going to a tropical or hot location, don't forget to bring an umbrella. In the tropics though it is summer most of the year, it usually rains every day and you don't want heavy rains to ruin your vacation.

Visiting various places around the world can be exciting. If you don't have budget constraints, a trip around the world to see the "seven wonders" is always worth it. A good place to visit is the Pyramids which are filled with mystery from ancient Egyptians, produced by a technology and architecture barely matched today. Walking through these wonders of the world brings out the mystery and contrast between them and the people and splendor of the area.

Vacation can be spent at home also. We can just relax and catch up on lost sleep if we feel too exhausted to travel. Meeting friends, barbecues, sitting by the pool and playing with children will make us forget the hard year that passed.

A vacation can simply be time spent at home winding down or an exciting trip to exotic places. Planning the vacation can be as intense as actually taking the vacation even if you stay at home. The vacation should not be stressful when the purpose is to relieve stress.

Compare Hotel Prices: How To Compare Hotel Rates

travel chile hotel explora atacamaImage by Travel South America via Flickr

by Chris Linch

In these hard economic times, the opportunity to save a couple of bucks here and there is something everybody looks for. However while we may try to skimp and save, nobody really wants to give up the idea of going on vacation. The good news is, there are several ways by which you can save when you travel and one of these is to compare hotel prices. If you compare hotel rates whilst checking out accommodation for your vacation you are sure to come across several hotels that are just what you need and are within your budget too. So what are the different ways in which you can compare hotel rates? Here are a few ways that will help you find the accommodation you are looking for.

You can compare hotel prices on the basis of the number of rooms that you need if you are travelling with family or with a large number of people or several families together. Before you do this however, you need to determine exactly the different room sizes you will need for each family or group of people. This is a good opportunity to compare hotel rates because many hotels tend to provide discounts for persons who book multiple rooms. In addition to these discounts these hotels often don't charge kids below a certain age so don't forget to check about these details too.

While on vacation, you do not necessarily have to stay in a four star hotel; there are plenty of more modest hotels that are unquestionably comfortable and spotlessly clean. It is only when you compare hotel rates that you will be able to make an informed choice as to where to stay. As you compare hotel prices you may just be lucky enough to land on one that is offering a discount for the day or for a particular period.

There have been surveys that have been conducted to see if those who compare hotel prices and book them through the internet got better quotations than those who compare hotel rates through telephone. The results from this survey were quite interesting. Persons who had compared hotel rates and booked these hotels over the internet were the ones who got better prices than the previous group who called the toll-free numbers. It has therefore been proven that people who compare hotel prices and rates online are most likely to get the best offers. The beauty of the internet is that it gives the prospective customer a summary of what hotels in a particular town are offering. For this service one will only be charged a small booking fee, which is undoubtedly worth it.

As you compare hotel rates it is worth remembering that as a member of a club e.g. AAA you are likely to be given a healthy discount. One should therefore not hesitate to mention that he is linked to a club or the other. The same applies to senior citizens. If you have a senior citizen traveling with you or if you are one yourself, when you compare hotel prices you should give full details about your age - you may just get a good senior discount. Another good type of discount to check up on is the corporate discount. To confirm this you just have to display your business card and you will be able to avail of the discount.

Cheap Hotel Rates and How to Get Them

Facade of The Pierre, New YorkImage via Wikipedia

by Chris Linch

With the cost of everything going up, a cheap hotel may be what you are looking for when you go on your next business trip or vacation. But, when you think of a "cheap hotel" you may not have pleasant images in your mind-uncomfortable beds, no amenities and just the basic necessities. But, if you could find a really great hotel with amenities and extras at a cheap hotel rate, you would probably jump at the chance to take it. Where can you find these great rates? You probably have heard about online specials, but you should also consider calling the hotel directly as well as looking for package deals, and special discounts for a cheap hotel rate.

Why should you call the hotel directly? If you are planning on staying at a chain hotel, you don't want to talk to the main reservation number-try calling the hotel directly. They may be able to give you a cheap hotel deal that is not advertised to the general public. You can also ask about any specials or package deals that they have. Let them know what kinds of rates you are finding online and see if they will match or beat them.

Nearly everyone knows about using the internet to get a cheap hotel rate. You may bid for a cheap rate or you may just search around and compare until you find the best one. An advantage of shopping this way is that it is very convenient and you can look at lots of rates in a very short time. Try different travel dates to see if you can get a lower rate that way if possible.

Another way to get a cheap hotel rate is to get a package deal. If you go on an all-inclusive travel website, many times you are able to make your hotel, air and rental car reservations at the same time. You can potentially save hundreds of dollars this way. If you are really flexible in your travel and you don't care when or where you go, you may also be able to save by traveling in off-peak times. For instance, if you stay at a Colorado ski resort in the summer or at a California amusement park during the middle of the school year you may get better rates.

Check for military discounts, credit card discounts and other discounts that you may have. Stay cheap and live well.

The internet has opened up many new markets for hotel room sales and any good research website will provide you with enough knowledge to help you make a good decision on possible hotels. You can find great deals on a very comfortable hotel room.

Start looking for low hotel rates by researching your destination. Read a travel guide written in the last 6 months for the area you will be traveling to. Pay special attention to areas of the city you want to visit, and what hotels that are recommended by the writer. Choose a well respected, travel guide, usually the writers of these guides do not accept payments from the businesses listed in the guide so you can trust their reviews.

Your Travel Safety Guide

Statue dedicated to the traveller in Oviedo, S...Image via Wikipedia

by Lindelwa Laz

Like most Americans, I like to journey a lot and I think, you too like to go on vacations. If you want to take a vacation, it doesn't actually mean that you're guaranteed with safety. But we should never disregard the fact that danger or any trouble can always get in our way no matter where we go. To have the assurance that you will be safe in your trip, let me give you some few points for your safety.

It is most likely that you would carry a case with you when you travel but see to it that putting your address in your case is something that you would never do. Along with this case, there's probably going to be a case tag and on this tag, you're only going to want to put your name and telephone number. This ensures that the individual who is thinking of returning your case, would call first.

Putting your full address on it will only get your home into difficulty since the thief would think that there are more great stuffs at your home when he tends to find out some worthwhile things in your baggage. The safest thing to do is to just put your full name.

Let me tell you something about any essential document to be carried. Your case should only contain things you can afford to lose like clothing. valuable and precious things like passport, credit card and other papers should never be kept inside case. As I pointed out on my previous tip, all of your personal details can be easily accessed if these worthwhile things will be stolen.

Avoid being flashy: Showing off of their money is something that some travelers love to do but the truth of the matter is, they're drowned in debts. For example, if you wear some dazzling items of jewelry, a stalker may decide to follow you through, and soon you could land in some very unpleasant situations. There is no need to be show off or flashy about the way you look since you are only one of those busy travelers at the airport with own business to deal with so, what you look like and how much cash you have is no longer their concern. Think of it: do you really care to know more about someone just for the way they dress?

Check up the notecase: One thing that you should do before taking on any trip is to clean out your wallet of anything that is unnecessary. According to [travel] gurus, it is better to journey light and not carry multiple charge cards and papers which are best left at home in a secure place. Just carry at least one charge card. Make a note of the number that you need to contact in case the credit card you carry gets stolen so that you can call immediately to cancel out any transaction.

Considering all of the many available hints with regards to traveling and safety, your judgment at its best is needed for you to choose what's effective and what's not. The most critical point to remember is not to flaunt or carry things, which are worthwhile when traveling. If you can follow the tip that is to carry only the things that you can afford to lose, then no doubt that you will be one of the safest travelers ever known.

Traveling With Pets

My dog dreams of travellingImage by anetz via Flickr

by Cheryl L. True

Going on a trip with your pet? Be prepared. Call before you leave to make sure your hotel accepts pets. There may be restrictions or fees.

Find out where the veterinary clinics are located close to where you are staying.

Vaccinations may be required when traveling abroad. Rabies is one that is required to and from the United States. You should take your pet to your vet prior to the trip. Find out what vaccinations are required and what diseases or problems may exist at your destination.

Plan your mode of transportation in advance. Buses and trains won't allow dogs on board. Airlines have various rules and restrictions so call in advance to avoid problems.

Avoid crowded times of the day and places that may make your pet nervous or skittish.

Even if your pet is naturally docile and calm, it may suddenly bolt for open windows or doors when confronted with new and unusual surroundings, people and smells. Using a leash is often best.

An identification tag is always a god idea, especially when your pet is in unfamiliar territory. You should always keep identification tags on your pet as well as a leash for your dog when it is outside. You may also want to bring along a current photo of your pet for identification purposes in case it gets lost.

Car rides are filled with potential hazards. Avoid leaving your pet unattended in the vehicle. It's easy for your pet to get heatstroke. If you must leave your pet in the vehicle while you are gone, leave at least two windows open for a cross draft and fresh air. A car can heat up to devastating temperatures in a very short amount of time.

Air travel is stressful enough without a pet. Airports are extremely crowded and you have to schedule and plan in advance to avoid various complications.

Instead of bringing your pet with you on your travels, you can always keep your pet at home with someone your pet is familiar or comfortable with who can feed and take care of it twice a day. A boarding kennel or a professional sitter is another option.
