Alessi Nuvem - Wire Sculpture at its Best

Image via Wikipedia

by Axel W.

You may never have heard of the term Nuvem. It is nor more nor less than a collection of objects formed from aluminum wire, spun and squashed into any number of household items. But that description is far too plain to capture this daring concept.

Alessi spent years developing the concept. There were the usual artistic struggles, of course. But imagine trying to form vases, baskets, and more that are both economical and lovely, while being true the original inspiration. The results show that they have succeeded marvelously.

A simple table mat might seem like it wouldn't be difficult to achieve. Yet, even here the struggle was great. To be true the original artistic inspiration, while creating a useful object that will not scratch or degrade, requires real skill.

The Alessi Nuvem Wire Mat (AFC12) comes in either anodized aluminum, in its natural color or gold or blue. Each exhibits the asymmetry that makes this item distinctively different and delightful. The mat is approximately 43cm x 37 cm (17" x 14.5") at the widest points, but is far from a simple rectangle. It will let you reach the farthest point of decorative individuality.

Alessi wasn't satisfied to stop there. They created a more complex object in the form of a Wire Flower Vase (AFC13). The vase stands 10cm x 10 cm (4" x 4") wide and 17 cm (7") high. That size lends it the necessary flexibility to be used in a dozen decorating scenarios.

As an open wire frame, the vase isn't designed to hold water though it can be used as the outer shell of a glass cylinder or rectangle. Still, it is the perfect choice for artificial flowers, as a container for potpourri, or any of dozens of decorating ideas. The swirling wire design complements the natural theme of growing plants yet provides an abstract work of art at the same time.

For one of its most complex tasks, Alessi chose to use the concept in the formation of a Wire Citrus Basket (AFC11). Here, both the functional and the artistic have to work together in perfect harmony. Wire that was too weak or imbalanced would negate the ability to hold fruit. A random mish mash would have none of the aesthetic value that lies at the base of the idea.

Available in natural aluminum color, blue, or gold, this fruit basket can be used in a wide variety of color schemes. Placed as the centerpiece of your table, your decorative efforts will pay off handsomely with just a simple touch of Nuvem. Sporting the same organic pattern as the flower vase, it brings both the sense of life and the artifice of design together in perfect harmony.

The seamless blend of practical purpose and fine dcor is a hallmark of Alessi. Nowhere have they achieved that integration better than in the nuvem line. Outstanding craftsmanship has realized an artistic vision honored by becoming part of the MOMA collection in New York. Honor Alessi by making it part of yours as well.

Eyelid Surgery Review

Whenever we meet someone, whether or not it is for the first time then the first thing we do is look into their eyes. As the eyes are such attractive aspects of a persons face, it is not surprising that many people have cosmetic surgery on this area and it's especially true once a person is of mature years. No one doubts that bags under the eyes, droopy eyelids and laughter lines are not attractive but they can be treated with cosmetic eye procedures and make a person much more attractive.

It's not all unusual today to consider cosmetic eyelid surgery. Individuals who look to having cosmetic eyelid treatment want to make themselves appear younger and more vibrant.

Every area of cosmetic surgery has a different medical term and the re-shaping of the eyelid is called Blepharoplasty. Looking youthful and energetic is something that comes from eye and eyelid surgery.

A droopy upper eyelid is called Ptosis so to correct this problem an eyelid tightening procedure can be performed and the thin muscle supporting the eyelid is elevated and secured. A brow lift is the procedure in which the loose skin from above and around the eye brows can be yanked up to remove under eye bags; removing wrinkles and leaving you looking healthier and younger.

People between the ages 51 to 64 considered eyelid surgery to be the number treatment as it can benefit vision. A slack upper eyelid is the normal reason for a droopy eyelid. Scarring is rare, as the skin of the eyelid is the thinnest of any in the body. Upper eyelid surgery does have one downside though and that is the bruising and swelling that normally starts showing very soon after the procedure. If the eyelid is heavy and swollen, the fat and muscle layers behind the eyelid are also removed.

Not everyone jumps at the chance to have eyelid surgery and some individuals are considering using collagen or one of its alternatives injected instead. There are times when a patient will not have the success with eyelid surgery they expected and so to combat the problem of drooping eyelids, another treatment called Micro pigmentation or permanent makeup can be used to provide the same effect. Another use of Micro pigmentation is how it can alter the look of an eye to make it look more symmetrical without any need for surgery.

Some factors that should be considered and can affect healing are which procedures are to be performed, how easily the patient bruises, how well the eyelids are taken care of during the postoperative period, and how good of a healer the patient is.

Will 2009 bring a championship title to the San Diego Chargers?

by Matt Ryan

The San Diego Chargers are sprinting towards all the best players, the players that will fill any gaps they noticed last year. The anticipation, of new players, has fans fidgeting with excitement. The 2009 season will not start until September 5, but fans are already making plans for season tickets, and away game parties. Tickets, for the San Diego Chargers, will not last long in the box office this season.

Management, of the San Diego Chargers, has stated that all of their new players will come from the draft this year. However, as many have experienced, this can change at any moment; there are still possibilities of free agents on the team. Fans can hardly wait until the day they find out who, of recent college graduates, will be joining the Chargers. Final decisions should be made any day, and fans are anxiously waiting on the edge of their seats.

In the late 50s a man by the name of Barron Hilton - Conrad Hilton's son - was the owner of the San Diego Chargers. Managing a football team, during this time, while still stressful, was much less complicated than it is today. Events like the draft were not covered with near as much red tape, as they are today, and decisions could be made much more quickly; giving fans the answers they were looking for much faster than today.

Their first year, on the field, actually took place in Los Angeles in 1960. It was not until the following year - 1961 - that the Chargers were in their home of San Diego. Sid Gillman coached players like Lance Alworth, John Hadl, and Paul Lowe to greatness. Alworth, in fact, is part of the Hall of Fame. Even though the fans were not climbing out of the woodworks, the team was beginning to get a solid following.

A few short years later, the San Diego Chargers were sold to another franchise and they began to play against NFL teams like the New York Jets; whom they proudly beat! This was an astonishing feat for the team as the Jets were Super Bowl Champions in '69. The Chargers coach fell ill and had to hand his position over Charlie Waller, the team's offensive backfield coach. The 60s proved to be a time of change for the team, and this is when they began to make their climb to fame.

The San Diego Chargers are currently fighting their way towards their well-deserved Championship title. Near the end of the season in 2008 the team was at a 7-win, 8-loss record. This, right here, made fans begin digging for an available ticket they could find.

Their record, in 2008, gave the Chargers the chance to play the Denver Broncos - this was no easy feat. With a final score of 52-21, in favor of the Chargers, the Chargers now held an AFC Western Division Championship title. This win allowed the team to move forward in the playoffs, giving them one of their best seasons yet.

The excitement from last year has kept the fans anxious for an amazing season in 2009, one that will give them a Super Bowl win! As preparations are made, for the 2009 season, management focuses on strengthening their weaknesses, and making them the team the fans are expecting to see. There is no doubt that season tickets will be in high demand and many fans may be left watching games on the big screen.

Craft Exhibit Selling Angles

Image via Wikipedia

by Ethan O. Tanner

A beneficial beginning scheme constitutes attempting to connect to the marketplace you're marketing to at this bazaar. Seek to capture a common sense feel of what kind of bunch you are working with at your approaching craft appearance and supply your items to that group of people. Traveling to the exhibit annually represents the most effective manner to acquire this, in that respect are additional techniques you are able to exercise. Is the city where the craft exhibit running representing mostly higher class or intermediate class? You might prefer to aline your pricing accordingly.

Are the customers going to be children or older people? If the craft show is near or in a school I almost always bring along a few "Kid Displays" where I place all my small plastic bead jewelry. I've had more than one child drag her parents over to my table to see the pieces I put out especially for them. If you're going to be showing in or around a nursing home you might want to consider changing your inventory. Older customers love beaded eyeglass chains, bracelets with large, easy clasps and "smoother" beads that aren't sharp on when lying against bare skin.

Business Cards are affordable and a outstanding reference of business enterprise and follow up sales event. Each time I sell an art object of jewellery at a craft appearance I packet it in a dandy little bag with my business card inside. I exercise this since although I already sold an art object of jewellery, I oftentimes have people getting hold of me a long time, months and even years later on to determine if they can order the equivalent or related art object for admirers and relatives. I in addition to list my internet site on the cards so people may shop and purchase my items in the comfortableness of one's own dwelling!

It is important to be flexible with your pricing. I generally do not put price tags on any of my pieces. This way people need to ask about pricing and I can adjust my price up and down a few dollars on the fly, based on the type of audience, the size of the crowd and whether or not I really want to sell the piece. And, yes, my prices sometimes change throughout the day.

Many attendees arrive at craft shows looking to haggle, thus it is occasionally sensible to give a cost some dollars to a higher amount than you would ordinarily expect therefore you've some dickering room. Tho' you might be embarrassed with this first off, I discovered it to be really helpful. I can't narrate how numerous pieces I have sold after speaking with the buyer and visiting regarding the cost. Among my preferred techniques is to sell a couplet of earrings with a beady bracelet for merely a couple of dollars more. The buyer likes getting a "bundled" deal and I like marketing two pieces and earning a trifle more money.

Ways of paying are important for succeeding at your craft appearance. Cash is plainly favored, but cheques are effortlessly accepted. All told my hours of working craft shows I have not been cheated ona bed check. A lot of people bring in cash to craft shows, only at times in that respect are simply so many a item being purchased that by the time the person gets to your cubicle she could not have any money left!

Charge cards are a little harder. If you are going to affirm the charge card then you will require an electric source and a phone connection of some sort. Numerous people, me included, will frequently merely use a manual charge card swiper with copy paper. No electrical energy is required; you just enter the numbers into your data processor or electronic machine once you get home. To accept charge card* you will in all probability require a merchandisers account and I have found out that most localized banks can assist you or direct you in the proper direction. It actually Is not really costly to execute. I arranged my 1st business relationship and purchased my manual swiper and carbon paper for lower than fifty dollars.

Selling your bead jewelry at craft shows is an amazingly fulfilling experience and a great ego booster, not to mention a fun way to make some extra money. Following these basic tips will help you sell more jewelry and have fun at the same time!
