Learn to Play Piano by Ear

The layout of a typical three-octave musical k...Image via Wikipedia

By Michelle Edward

Have you ever wondered if what you know about playing piano is accurate? Consider the following paragraphs and compare what you know to the latest info on playing piano.

Consider this...

Would you like to play the piano without the fuss of dragging your music sheets?

Or hum your music along with a certain tune?

Have you for years longed to play, except your eyesight is poor and makes it difficult?

Haven't you learned that if you can hum a certain tune, that you can learn to play it?

Some musicians, professional in their own art, didn't start their career through any manuals or instructors. What they did is follow the tone that they hear and play along the beating of the music. No notes, no mentors.

1. Assemble your things. Of course you'll need a piano or a keyboard, whatever it is that's available. You have to have at least three available fingers, just in case others have been decapitated or just got lost. Be sure you have a lot of time to practice. Oh, and tune your piano first.

2 - A regular piano happens to be made up of 88 keys. (A keyboard has less keys.) There is a total of 12 notes counting the regular notes, sharp notes, and flat notes. The white notes begin with an A note, then the white notes go like B, then C, then D, then E, then F, and finally G.

Then after the last white G - note, the next white note again becomes the A - note, then the repetition begins. This sequence is repeated until the last white note is done for about 7 times. That would include the black notes that represent flats and sharps.

3 - The Home is is also the not C. To find this C note look at the white note at the left of the pair of black keys not the threesome. If you still feel baffled the look closely at your piano. The very middle note on the piano is a C note. In fact it is called middle C. This is the beginning note in the C major chord.

If what you know about playing the piano is out dated, how is this going to control you decisions and actions? Be sure to not ignore important information on playing the piano.

The thumb of your right hand will serve as number 1 because it is put at the C straddled in the middle. From there, count all keys going to the right. Include the black keys.

When you reach 5, that note is the second note of the C chord. Put your middle finger on it. Then counting from 5 count the notes to 8, this will be the final note of the C chord. Place your little finger on that key.

Now hit these keys together and an impressive sound is accomplished.

4 - Get real familiar with using the sequence mentioned above... 1, then 5, and 8 in counting. This goes for starting with any of the notes, just remember to count, includes the sharps and flats.

Use these chords as your roots. This will work perfectly if you decided to start on a sharp. You'll be making a sharp chord by then.

5 - With enough practice on these chords that are easy, you'll discover that by counting and closely listening, it will be simple to work through.

If you drop the 5 and go to 4 then you will have a minor chord, in place of the major chord.

Now, if you're playing for a C chord, all you have to do is move your finger one key to the left to be able to produce a C minor.

The benefits of good listening you will start knowing different tones. You will also be capable of hearing variations in a tune. This is true as long as you hearing is good enough.

Some advice:

Don't just do your practicing in the middle of your piano. Many keys are available for you to select.

Don't limit yourself in using one or two fingers. Through practice, you could use all fingers including both hands.

Practice, practice, and more practice.

The information covered in this article is up to date for today's standards. But leave your mind open for future research in how to play by ear.

Write A More Effective Demand Letter With These 4 Tips

Modern global cities, like New York City, ofte...Image via Wikipedia

By David P. Montana

If you are handling your own debt collections in house, then you already recognize the need to periodically send demand letters to delinquent customers.

Many business owners would rather use the "gentle" approach by first sending a friendly reminder. The idea is this may serve to help "jog" the customer's memory of the past due bill.

While these can have varying degrees of success, they can still be improved upon by learning a few tips to help you write a more effective demand letter. This will encourage your customers to pay you sooner, rather than later.

1. Wording That Is Professional

Your demand letters should never contain any harassing, threatening or abusive language. Nor should it even imply threats. Some customers might become defensive if they perceive they're being threatened. Whether or not you meant to threaten, if interpreted as such, it can result in possible legal retaliation. At the very least, it will not put them in the mood to want to pay you.

Your collection letters should be worded professionally, with communication that is non-personal, emotional, stay on the point, and communicate clearly that the letter is a reminder of an unpaid debt. This usually proves to be enough of an encouragement to get the customer to pay the bill.

2. Exactness is Key

Your collection letter should state the exact amount the customer owes and when the payment was due. You may also want to mention the services or goods provided as a reminder, although this isnt always necessary. Where possible, try to keep your letters brief and to the point.

3. Payment Arrangements

If some customers are avoiding all contact, you might want to offer a payment arrangement. They might be ashamed of admitting financial difficulties, and a payment plan with smaller payments over time might be more financially manageable for your customer.

They could become more cooperative after being offered payment arrangements, because smaller payments are less financially stressful.

4. Penalty Fees

Mentioning the possibility of late fees or penalties might be a further incentive for some customers to pay. Your demand letters could mention tacking on additional late fees if the account continues to remain delinquent. Faced with the possibilities of still more fees, some customers will find the money needed to pay the debt.

By receiving smaller payments over time to your business, you can increase the cash flow by following these suggestions. At the same time, you're encouraging your delinquent customers to pay their past due bills.

If youre dealing with your debt collection procedures in-house and writing your demand letters yourself, you must not imply that a debt collection agency is involved in the collecting.

You also have to exercise caution, that none of your language contains any threatening language of any kind. For instance, you cannot threaten legal action if you're not actually working with an attorney. You can't threaten to garnish a debtor's wages, nor can you imply that you're working with a government agency to collect your debt.

It also violates federal statutes to make your demand letters look "official", and like they've been written by any federal or state agency, or from a court.

Use your own regular business stationary and keep your writing tone professional and encouraging. As a general rule, send two letters approximately 30 days apart. If youre still not meeting with any success, then it may be time to consider alternative methods of debt collection, which may include appointing an agency to assist your collection methods.

Keeping The Pressure Out!!-Pressure Cleaners

Karcher pressure washerImage by safoocat via Flickr

By Larry Johnson

With the advent of technology and so many developments the need to maintain a hygienic lifestyle has become very important. Even with so many cleaning techniques to choose from pressure cleaning stands out as remarkably exceptional method.

Pressure cleaning can be defined as a technique where water or steam are focused on a surface or any material that requires to be cleaned. Water or steam is let out to the surface from a mechanical device known as a pressure cleaner. The high pressure used in this method is responsible for the cleaning action. For cleansing purposes even chemicals can be used along with the water.

There are various categories of pressure cleaners: electric, petrol, diesel, gas and ultra high pressure. Typically a motor that drives the water pump, a hose and a trigger gun make up a pressure cleaning unit. According to the requirement units are chosen though mostly industrial needs are met by gas units and household needs by electric units.

The uses of pressure cleaning are diverse and numerous. It can be used to clean concrete surfaces like roads, roofs, driveways and walls painted with graffiti. It is also used for airfield rubber removal where it is used to maintain friction on runway strips. Historic places that look dilapidated can be restored back to their natural beauty using this method.

Pressure cleaning can be compartmentalized depending on the magnitude of the water pressure. When using water pressure that is less than 5000 psi (pound per square inch) it is called as low pressure water cleaning, for pressures between 5000-10,000 psi it is known as high pressure water cleaning, pressures between 10,000-25,000 psi it is called as high pressure water jetting and for if the pressure is greater than 25,000 it is called ultra high water pressure jetting. The amount of water that can be dispensed is measured in GPM (Gallons per minute).

The spray distance, pressure of the nozzle, spray angle and water flow rate are the elements that determine the efficiency of pressure cleaning. They are chosen after assessing the type of operation for which pressure cleaning is to be used. To consider an example, among the different nozzle types like solid jet, rotating flat jet and rotating solid jet, rotating solid jet is favored due its higher efficiency as compared to the rest .A variation from zero to forty degrees is also possible with respect to the spray angle which is decided according to the requirement.

Hot water is comparatively more used than cold water for pressure cleaning as water at high temperatures tends to clean surfaces better than cold water and in a shorter duration of time. The procedure is different when steam is used for pressure cleaning. Water is heated up to 140-150 degrees centigrade and then the steam is allowed to condense on the surface, thus resulting in clearing of the desired dirt from the surface. Another thing to be kept in mind regarding these is that one has to be extremely careful while using pressure cleaners as being exposed to water at such high pressures can lead to serious injuries.

Like any technology there is a lot of scope to improve as far as features are considered regarding pressure cleaning. Many important factors that influence the efficiency of pressure cleaning like nozzle designs, speed, and nozzle radius are still being studied. So as far as future development is considered, a lot can be expected in this field.

It can be thereby safely concluded that pressure cleaning with its numerous benefits like its effectiveness, affordability and the fact that it requires only minor amounts of water and chemicals makes it a very attractive option as far as cleaning methods are concerned.

Babe Ruth

Babe Ruth, 1920Image by bobster855 via Flickr

By Denise I Smithson

Babe Ruth is a name which is instantly familiar to people around the world; even those who are not baseball fans and those far too young to actually remember the Sultan of Swat know his name and are familiar with the House That Ruth Built. Among younger Major League players, one of Babe's superstitions has taken hold. As Babe said "whenever I hit a home run, I always make sure I touch all four bases". Babe Ruth was larger than life in every sense of the word and he remains deeply rooted in the popular imagination - for there may be another like him.

George Herman Ruth, Jr. was born on February 6 in 1895 in Baltimore, Maryland and was the son of Kate Schamberger-Ruth and George Senior. Kate had eight children with George Sr. but only two would survive past infancy - a daughter Mamie and The Babe. Babe didn't have the best of childhood memories, taking care of himself most of the time. At seven, Ruth was sent to St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys-more of a reformatory and orphanage than a school. Without his parents, except some weekends and holidays, Babe was what the Nuns at St. Mary's called "incorrigible."

Never find if rules, Ruth chafed under the strict life of the school. The upside for Ruth was that he discovered baseball while at the school, becoming quite the player in his time there. When only 19, he was spotted and immediately signed to the Baltimore Orioles by manager Jack Dunn. He earned his nickname while on the Orioles - his teammates called him "Jacks' new babe"; a name which stayed with him for a lifetime.

After only five months, Ruth was signed to the Red Sox, where he spent six years playing the outfield and as a catcher. He rapidly gained popularity with fans for his performance on the field as well as his colorful nightlife off the diamond. Ruth played his first of many World Series games in 1916, where he set a record of fourteen innings pitching; a record which remains unbroken to this day. In World Series games alone, he achieved a record of 29 2/3 innings with no score as a pitcher - this record would stand for 43 years. He was traded to the New York Yankees in 1919; it wasn't until 2004 that the Red Sox won the World Series again, a phenomena which became known as the "Curse of the Bambino".

In 1920, he began his Major League career with the New York Yankees where Babe and his teammates would win 7 American League Pennants and 4 World Series Titles, a legacy called "The Curse of the Bambino." Babe hit an amazing 54 home runs in 1920 and was both a fan and player favorite not just for his home run hitting skills, but also for his candor. In 1923, mostly due to the popularity of The Babe, the Yankees opened Yankee Stadium that would eventually be named, The House That Ruth Built-how appropriate that The Babe would hit a home run on opening day, along with yet another World Series Title. Married to Helen Woodford in October of 1914, by 1919, Babe had enough money to buy them a country house and adopt a daughter they named Dorothy. After a separation, but no divorce in 1925, Babe did not remain the good boy when it came to women and continued an affair with model Claire Hodgson. Upon Helen's death by fire in 1929, Babe married Claire and hit her an out-of-the-park homerun in his first at bat in April of that same year.

The achievement that Babe Ruth will be remembered for more than any other is hi s60 home runs in 1927 - this record was finally broken by Roger Maris in 1961. This record continues to be disputed, since Ruth hit his 60 home runs in 154 games as opposed to Maris' 162 games and 61 home runs. Regardless, there is no dispute about Ruth's .690 batting average, something which has not been equaled since. This is why Babe Ruth is also known as the Great Bambino and the Sultan of Swat.

Another impressive achievement came in the third game off the 1932 World Series. The Yankees were playing against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Babe had already hit one home run earlier in the game, but in the fifth inning, Ruth hit what is believed to be the longest home run ever hit out of Wrigley Field until Sammy Sosa's famous home run in 2002 which landed on Kenmore Avenue!

When Babe did not get his desired Yankee manager position in 1935, he left the Yankees and signed with the Brave's as not only a player but also their first base coach accepting the promise of their manager position the following year. With his manager outlook grim, Babe hit three home runs in one of his final games against the Pittsburgh Pirates, where only a meager 10,000 fans saw him tip his hat at that last home run-his 714th. Still, with Babe's 8,399 at-bats, 2,211 RBI's and a career 2.28 ERA as a lefty pitcher, The Babe remains a true hero in the hearts and fans of baseball everywhere.

Set Up a Merchant Account Before Opening Your Business Doors

"A merchant making up the account" b...Image via Wikipedia

By Scott Johannson

This article is mainly intended for those of you that are just getting your new small or home based business up and running. So first of all, congratulations on taking a big step! You're stepping out on faith to make a big difference in your future, and I wish you the best of luck! But I want to approach a very important topic that you'll need to have figured out before you get started: how to accept credit card payment.

I've seen way too many people get their business up and running, and then they have an order come in and they realize, "Oh no! How do I actually accept a credit card?" Trust me, you don't want this to happen to you. You need to have a merchant account set up so you can accept credit cards!

Now, one thing to know is that you don't have to have your merchant set up when you first conceptualize your idea. You really don't need to worry about it too much until you have everything ready to go, but you'll want to make sure that it is up and working before you have an order come through.

Make sure you shop around for the best rates. Things to look at when comparing include setup fees, monthly fees, and per transaction fees. Look around for the merchant account companies that are willing to give you the best rates. It will be worth the time in the long run.

The other thing to be aware of is that you may not even need a machine to accept credit cards. If you are going to be taking orders at your place of business you'll need to have one. Otherwise, you'll just need to have a merchant gateway to process credit cards online at your computer.

It seems like a simple step, but make sure you don't overlook it. It really is a bad feeling to have an order come in that you can't accept payment for!

How to Learn the Slowest Martial Art in Existence!

By Al Case

Okay, here's something that will really ring your bell--you are learning the martial arts using the slowest method of education in existence in the world. This is absolutely true. And it is propagated through the mysticism and awe of attaining something that, should you use a method of learning a bit more modern in scope and design, would speed your progress up by a factor of ten.

The martial arts utilize a method that has worked for the history of the world, for monkeys. This is the monkey see monkey do method. Using the monkey see monkey do method, you are trained to memorize random strings of data.

That's correct, random strings of data. As a matter of fact, to be sure, it is random strings strings of random data, and everything is held together through mystical concept. Not logical concept that makes sense, but mystical concept that makes you go, Oooo!

That system of kung fu, the one based on an animal--I have never heard of an animal being able to think logically. Oh, you fight like an animal, and with an animal's...logic. What you're telling me is that the movements that look like an animal have been gathered together so you could copycat them.

Copycatting is not a concept, and it is not logical. Copycatting is doing what you're told...or, in the martial arts world, sold. Lots of money in selling copycat methods, because you can just keep rearranging the strings of data and fool people into thinking they are getting something scientific.

Now, you might think that I am down on the martial arts because of what I have said here. The opposite is true, I am so in love with the martial arts it is unbelievable. I don't, however, subscribe to antiquated methods of learning.

My particular method is to take the mysticism of the martial arts, use logic to align it, and learn ten times faster than the next guy. This method, which is almost in direction opposition to any method you have ever seen, is called Matrixing. Matrixing is an actual scientific process--it is not the latest psuedo-science-jargon (cybermind, cranial digitation, neural brain logging, and that sort of made up so on) that internet marketers use to sell their tricks.

The question I sometimes get is...how does it work? Consider: if you had 6, 5, 1, 9 and a shaved dog, you wouldn't know how to count. If you had 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. 6 and so on...you would know how to count.

What I do is line up the martial concepts in a counting manner, so there are no missing numbers, no out of sequence numbers, and no ridiculous concepts thrown in. When people learn in this fashion it is possible to learn, as I said, as much as ten times faster. Of course it depends on the person doing the learning, and whether they have a basic education, and so on.

Having said the above, it was not easy to develop Matrixing. In fact, it took me a trio of decades, as there was no precedent for what I was doing. The work is done, however, and martial artists the world over can now escape from...the slowest method of learning in existence.
