Special Floor Care

By Ian Kleine

Tiles are found in almost every home, usually situated in the bathroom, showers, drains, sinks...anywhere that has water in it. Even in the kitchen. Most modern day houses are armed with tiles for this function. Not only with that but for their aesthetics as well. Homeowners take a good while to try and invest on floors, since floors are going to be the foundation (literally) of the house. It is up to the owner to decide and find ways to preserve the condition of the tiles for as long as it takes.

In a tiled floor, there are two parts to it. One is the tile itself, the very thing that you step on, and two is the grout, the usually white substance that sticks the tiles and the floor together. Grout is the life and essence of tiled floors. Without the grout, the tiles will be easily riddled with water damage, mold and mildew, and even insect hives.

Grout is essential when keeping tiled floors. Grout should receive the same treatment and care just as much as the expensive tiles that you keep. Floors do not usually last as long as the tiles, when they are ignored. A mismanaged floor, would have their grout crumbling, their tiles breaking, and floor marked with damage. Something you would want to avoid.

When cleaning tiles, make sure to use warm water. Warm water is the optimum temperature for cleaning stuff, as the temperature makes it easier for the stain to dissolve and also activates most cleaners, which helps making the stuff clean faster and more efficiently. Grout is another story, with most stains usually persistent in being removed.

Warm water and hydrogen peroxide are one of the first things you have to apply on stains. Stains usually persist the more time you waste in not removing them. Soak the area with a rag and leave it on in there until it clears. Just remember to attempt this first aid on colorless tiles. Hydrogen peroxide is said to remove the color from tiles as well.
